Several solutions have been proposed that would only last for a short time, like the end of the year. Obama has flat out rejected these plans because he says he doesn't want this to be an election fodder fiasco. When you think about it, it makes sense. You know that a lot of this fight is just silly political posturing. The debt ceiling has been raised many, many times before and I don't believe it's ever been this big of a drama fest. I think it is because of the closeness to elections combined with the configuration of the House/Senate/Whitehouse. (Rep/Dem/Dem)
If we push the debt ceilng up to last until the beginning of the next term, then things will definitely calm down and we can get work done without all the drama and our representatives will be less worried about the next elections.
IMO, if they're allowed to pass a short term solution that takes us right up into the middle of the next election year, it will be a disaster. We won't be able to have real dialogue about it and the issue will seem a lot more end-of-the-world urgent just because they'll want it to be. Don't let them manufacture emergencies!~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

This is what I heard on our local news. To me, it sounds like they are tossing around different options. 6 months will come quickly and then they will be rehashing this again....

If the shtf and they really do stop SS payment for more than a month I guarantee I will be moving my mother in even if it is 30 miles from all her friends and activities.
I am honestly not super worried about this. I think they use a lot of scare tactics. Dh and I have been past flat broke before and survived . We know how. Being rural makes me feel a lot more secure in the shtf scenario.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000
