For the past 12 years, the churches I have gone to have had men patrolling the parking lot during services. Most deacons now have some walkie talkie type setup for security in the lot and nursery.

Our church installed security camera's after a string of break-ins several years ago. Some one watches the camera feed during the service. And no I don't live in the middle of big city.

Same type of things happening here.........really sad.
Even had some people go into the church during a special function.......find the purses and steal them. Anyone can just walk in at any time...........that will probably be the next thing to change. ??show ID for church???

I used to attend a church in the middle of our downtown area. We had men patrolling the parking lot at every service and function, but sometimes people would still be able to slip into the buildings and steal. Once we were having a "watermelon cutting" after church one evening and a man got into where the melons were and stole two of them. He was seen running away, a melon under each arm. It was hilarious, but sad too.
If he had just come in and asked for the melons, we would have gladly given him some.

Downtown churches can be some of the worst. It does have it's funny stuff too.
We were having a praise team practice and some dude, flying high, came in and tried to be some reality show judge or Joe Cool stage director. Someone finally said something to him and he got miffed, threw some stuff and stormed out !@#$%. He probably doesn't remember a bit about it.
I was always a little nervous playing keys back by the backstage door. Someone was always wondering in.

Unfortunately, this isn't just a big city issue anymore. I live in a small town of maybe 2000 people. We have several churches here, and I know of at least one where purses were stolen during a daytime Bible study. That was at least five years ago, and I believe most of the churches now have implemented safety measures, such as locks and doorbells to alert office staff when someone enters the building.

We have had people who have had gas siphoned out of their vehicles while sitting in a church service.
This summer there has been some vandalism at the church too.
Sad to see.

I remember growing up, you could walk into the church at any time to light a candle, sit and pray. Now the church is locked until certain times of the day. No longer sits open.

A few years ago, some local churches had problems with people going into unlocked cars, checking the registration for an address, and then robbing the homes while they knew people were in church!
