You're staying on the end of the island that has in my opinion one of the best beaches of all time. They call it big beach, I believe it is actually named Makena. This beach has virtually no commercial development on it and in the spring you can hear the whales if you go under water. It's an amazing experience.
Because you are in Wailea, you wil be in an upscale area of the island. There is a shopping mall nearby with restaurants in it. I prefer the smaller more localized estasblishments. Mauimagic can probably give you a better list of those. However, if you are in Kihei at happy hour, go to Fred's and have a margarita and then stay for dinner and have the fish tacos....LOVE THEM!!!!

Awesome...Thank you so much!
My friend mentioned Bubbagumps...okay for one thing I thought it was a made-up place in the Forrest Gump movie lol...she said the bucket of shrimp was wonderful...I love mom and pop places...where locals eat type place...there was another restaurant...something...plate...tripleplate? by the ocean...If my DD could hear the whales that would be so amazing...she will be 5 when we go...it's her first flight and first time being out of the country. On Baby Step # 6 $49,564.xx

Is it called Aloha Mixed Plate? It's in Lahaina as is Bubba Gumps....Loved Mixed Plate but would rate Bubba Gumps soso...but then everyone likes a different experience. I have eaten there..once...and i've been to the island many times. I tend to go for local food... The Gazebo (north of kaanapali) has a to die for breakfast... get there early though. You won't be sorry! Look up tripadvisor restaurants on Maui..if you find something that interests you pm me...

____something____ Mixed Plate was featured on the Food Network..."Diners Drive Ins and Dives", I think. And the food looked delicious. I can't remember for sure the show or the name of the place/

We went to the Big Island and Oahu in 2007 it was wonderful. On the Big Island we went to volcano national park very nice. Also we went to the natural black sand beach. We did a helicopter tour while there that was wonderful and a snorkeling cruise that was fun. One of the favorite things I enjoyed while there was the wonderful coffee . We did a 10 day trip. spent the 1st part on the Big Island and the 2 part on Oahu. Have fun.
