I understood you anology.
I was pointing out that option has been taken away same as people are complaining about fries being taken away and substituted with some apples..
You could not take you child to a smokey bar if you want where I live as non exist.
Just like where I live you couldn't take a asthmatic child to a smokey place now an obese child would by default get a apple with their fries.

They havent mentioned anything about changing the ones over here in the UK but i think it is down to the fact that we offer apple/grape bags and carrot sticks as an alternative to the fries and we also do fruit juice, milk and water for kids meals too - tbh not many have fizzy drinks - ours are fanta zero, sprite zero, coke zero diet coke and ordinary coke - so not much sugar and calories in them all (im not sure what your menus are like in the US)
I work there and the amount of people i see bringing there kids in everyday for happy meals is unreal - the food is fine as long as you dont have it too often but some people i see everyday, its not healthy that way.Kelly & DH Alex ♥

I don't know... does an apple cancel out the fries?Do you look at it or eat it to get the benefit? It tickles me. However, you can smoke like a fiend in your own home with children present. And you can feed them all the junk you want within your own home. So betterment laws really do not change anything on the scale needed to make societal changes.Parents must be held accountable, not McDonalds, not the school, not your neighbor.( I might eat the apples there if they had not had the skins removed and the good fiber removed.)My Dad used to eat there when he wanted to clear his bowels. We used to think he was nuts, until we got his age and tried to eat there. Whammy.

I know what you mean about the apples...ick. I don't know where McD's gets theirs, but their apples are on the bitter side. If my kids want apples, we'll buy them from HEB or Fruit King. Although having more to choose from isn't such a bad idea...eating at home still beats McD's any day
& this is coming from a "McD's family" - dd is a McD store manager & dh works on all of McD's equipment/computers that they have from PARTech.lol.

How do you want to have parents made accountable? removing the child from the home if they smoke or their child is overweight. There have been news articles of this very thing happening.
I think the apple thing is to cover Mc Donald's so they are not the scape goat for childhood obesity anymore."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

Unless there is a betterment law that will remove children from these homes there is nothing that society can do.Perhaps they will begin to take children from lower income homes, if that is where "they" feel the problem is worst. Is that happening yet?I never understood why McDonalds became the scapegoat. But I think while I am out I will have some fries. New friends, new playgrounds my rear. I am off to relapse!! Ta! Ta!!!!!

McDonald's is ubiquitous, that's why they became the scapegoat. If Jamba Juice and McDonald's popularity were switched, from the beginning, Jamba Juice would likely be a scapegoat, too. It's personal responsibility that is the cause, but no one likes to blame themselves.
I see the point about responsible parents being affected negatively, and why that would raise some irritation. Since you can still get all fries, it's not really an issue. The school lunch thing, though, that's a whole different thing.
