Salad Combinations
Being summer and needing to shed a few pounds I have been eating more salads. Lately I have been using lettuce, grapes, canned salmon, and romano cheese with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, black pepper and garlic powder. Growing up this was unheard of in my family. Oddly enough it is a really good combination. Today I used blueberries and basil leaves instead of grapes and romano cheese.
Am wondering what other types of combinations are out there that the average person would not think of.
Anyone willing to share?

My favorite salad is Romaine lettuce (not a fan of iceberg lettuce), turkey sausage, boiled eggs, croutons, mushrooms, cucumbers, tomatoes and ranch dressing.

Pineapple tidbits and mandarin orange slices are nice on salad too.
My usual salad now is romaine, chicken, cheese (prefer romano or feta), tomato, bell pepper, shredded carrots, nuts of any kind. Cucumber or celery occasionally, usually some kind of Italian type dressing. I've been eating big salads for supper too.
Thousand Island is wonderful on any salad with fruit included, or a wickedly good sweet onion dressing - sadly too high carb for me to use now.Donna

I put taco meat made with ground turkey, black beans , and salsa in my salads. The salsa takes the place of dressing. Other than that, I am a fairly traditional salad kind of gal.
At a local sports bar I did have a salad that had boneless buffalo wings on it. They were so saucy the salad didn't need dressing.McD

Thinly slice an orange, drizzle with salt, a good olive oil and red pepper flakes. Eat with a nice piece of Italian bread to sop up the juice.

This is one of my favorites
any type of lettuce, cashew nuts, camembert cheese in small cubes, strawberries thinly sliced and honey mustard dressing.
It sounds weird but it is amazing.*Avril*

All yummy ideas. When you are trying to be frugal and use up what you have without going to the grocery store again you can really come up with interesting and tasty ideas. Like the idea of adding nuts. May do that soon.
