Today we gave the curling iron a try
I took three thin pencil width lengths on each side and made ringlet curls out of each one
Then I draped them one by one loosely to the side and secured each on with those tiny clips so she has curl on both sides of her face yet it is pulled back

Update: we have been doing lots of braids and flips etc. The girls in her class are asking how to do them and then stlying their hair that way too. Little Miss has been enjoying them copying her.
Today a wal green she was checking out the girl press on nails. I showed her the stickers and told her the tip I learned here about the clear polish on top. She found that interesting and is warming up to the idea instead of press on nails"Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

Our daughter is 5. We do mostly braids with occassional hair curling using the curling iron. I may get some rollers for her hair. I usually just do a solid color for her nails ( only do them about once a mth or so) but occassionally we will do stripes or nail stickers.

I'm not a girly girl either. I've always been a tomboy although I've gotten more girly as I've gotten older. I think it's a sex thing, lol! Anyway, I like the You Tube videos too and have found a lot of good videos for makeup and hair. I remember that very early in my marriage, my MIL ticked me off once 'cause she told my dh and probably her b*tchy daughter too, that I didn't even know how to buy pantyhose, didn't know my size, etc. Well, duh... Tomboys don't wear pantyhose unless absolutely forced to and every pair I had ever worn had been bought by my mother up until that point. I can certainly buy them now although my mother does still occasionally buy me a pair...lol.

We checked those out last night. Looks super easy.
This weekend we did the all over little braids then let it dry and take it out. I think they made it look like she got a perm. ( remember the late 80's early 90's) but she thought it was so pretty. It lasted until she washed it out this morning.
We are thinking about trying the rag curls a weekend coming up soon."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

When my DD (now 16) was little she wanted her hair curled all the time, after it was washed, I would put her hair up in to a pony tail high on her head, and then put the sponge curlers to it..that way she could sleep and not feel the curler plastic dig in to her head. In the morning it would be dry and we could take it down and then pin it back in to a barrette or something.
I would also braid small braids in her hair and slip a bead on to them and fasten the end with an ouch-less elastic.
