I needed a raising a girly girl 101 class. Tips please
Little Miss just came home from her first sleep over wearing make up,nails and toes done with fancy details, her long hair curled, and wearing the biggest smile. They mention they used a heat defender on her hair to protect it and the curls would have lasted longer if they had used hair spray.
Being a no make up straight hair girl with a wash and wear hairstyle who could not stay in the lines with nailpoish let alone know how to do a fancy style nails it was like they were speaking a foreign language
I need any tips you can give

Do you know how to braid/French braid? Do it when her hair is wet then the next day it'll be pretty waves. I have a little make up case with make up in it dd is allowed to play with/use. Nail polish is pretty easy after some practice!

Depending on the age, dress up clothes, necklaces and clip on earings are fun. My 7 and 4-1/2 year old love dressing up. I rarely do their nails and never put on make-up because I don't want them to think they need to grow up fast. I want them to be my babies for as long as possible.
Sponge curlers are quite pricey, but you could buy a pack at Wal-Mart. They'll probably last a LONG time if you take care of them. First you wash and blow dry her hair. Then when it's quite dry you roll up her hair in curlers. My girls sleep in them overnight. It doesn't really hurt their head while they're laying there...I did it PLENTY of times growing up. After 1/2 a minute of laying on her curlers, she'll forget they're in her hair. In the morning...VOILA!

Was it a defender or a diffuser? There is a thing called a diffuser you can put on the end of a hairdryer for curly hair. My older daughter has curlyish hair and she uses a "sprunch spray" when she wears it curly. Crunches it while it is drying with a diffuser and shapes it into curls- it is easy and cute. Some days she straightens it. She is VERY into nailpolish, but that is her own thing- I didn't give her direction other than painting her nails the regular way from time to time when she was little. If you look in the nail polish section of stores right now there are tons of items that are easy to use- even the dollar store has nail stickers, etc.

I'm in that same boat! Thankfully I had plenty of friends around that were girly girls for all that fun stuff!
I'm a wash n go type with my hair as well (I don't have time or energy to fuss with it and no matter what has been done in the past my hair won't hold a curl for more than 10 minutes anyway!) I do nail polish every once in a while...usually on my toes and make up is not something I've ever been interested in.
DD is 16 now and does all that stuff on her own if she wants. Most of what you said your post is a foreign language to me as well. I did luck out that for most of her younger years DD was "mostly" a tomboy...with a day here and there when she wanted to go all girly. The rest of my kiddos are boys...so I lucked out there too!
Good luck!

Youtube also has some great videos to help you with braiding hair, putting on makeup, and doing your nails.
Since she is still young you may want to keep things more natural looking as far as makeup is concerned. More neutrals and light pinks for makeup and nails. There are a lot of lip moisturizers that are tinted, burts bees has some nice tinted moisturizers. It is also a good time to start explaining proper skin care especially when it comes to the face.
When I was around 12 or 13 I used to set my hair with pink sponge type rollers before I went to bed. Then slept in them. Some times I would also used strips of cloth and would roll my hair around the cloth and tie it. Personally I would stay away from curling irons until she is a little older. Those things can give you really bad burns. My hairdresser also says to stay away from the flat irons because they are to hot and will fry the hair.
You also might want to see if you have any cloth ribbon she could use in her hair. She might even enjoy having scarfs in her hair.
I think the two of you will have fun trying different things. Can see the both of you doing each others nails or creating different hairstyles together.

God sure has a sense of humor. My girly girl sister had a total tomboy for a daughter, and was so happy when she FINALLY went to a HS formal and she got to help her 'dress up' and do makeup and nails (my sis is a manicurist.)
Get a couple of 'Seventeen' magazines, or other teen mags, and read up. There should be plenty there to show you what girlygirls do.______

If you're not 'for' make up - why not let her have her own set of 'Lip Smackers' - flavoured lip balms. Some of their products have high gloss or sparkles so they're all different. Its not quite make up but its still something similar w/o the impact.
Body spray is another thing to let her try - if she's old enough OR only allow her to apply it when she's supervised etc.2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Great ideas keep them coming
Little Miss is going into 5th grade. So far I have not let her wear make up to school although last year she tried to wear some to school as some of her classmates already were. We did let her wear sparkle powder as long as she put it on light. She can also play with make up but can not wear it out. She is also into body sprays "perfume" and nail polish. Some girls are getting the fake ones but I still say no to those
I like the idea of her wanting to style her long straight hair I can braid not French braid and I have done the wet hair braid that makes waves. We also do this hair style Hubby calls Narnian as Lucy in those movies wears her hair like that other than that I am at a lose"Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

There are 50 bajillion hair products. I don't use mouse, gel, etc. Prior to blow drying I put in a thermal spray that is designed to help protect hair as well as add shine. Once done blow drying, I flat iron my hair, then put some texturizing wax in. The wax is to help my hair stay a bit 'piece-y' due to the cut/style I have. Hair spray is kind of take it or leave it for me. It's to help hold the hair in place.
Does she have a curling iron to play around with and try different hairstyles? I love the Narnian Lucy look. If you get her little clips or Bobby pins, she can experiment with pulling the front sections of her hair back.
ETA: target/walmart has a good selection of hair products. Typically one aisle over from the shampoos.McD

Also, have you done a google search of some of her favorite celebs? I know the Nick channel has stars like Icarly, Victorious, etc that have kid appropriate hair styles, etc.

Look on youtube to learn how to french braid, my daughter is learning and using me to learn how. Paint nails! Do a plain color and then top with glitter nail polish, easy and fancy looking. I have 3 girlie girls, 12,10, and 7 months old.

The hair defender should be in the haircare aisle.
I did a Google Shopping inquiry and found this:

I don't use mousse or gel or hairspray. Chime in ladies if you use them.
PS I don't know that happy face ended up in the link, but it's a valid link.No spend days 2012 92/365
