I hope if you ever lose something very important to you someone has a different attitude than you do. Just remember what goes around comes around!

Sounds like any number of people could have found it before you and I supposed you leagally own the van and it's contents. If you were just cleaning it out for the owner then I would say to give the money back. In the situation you were in I would guess there are a lot of people that had the car before you took possesion of it and could/would say the money was theirs.

I don't see the problem with keeping the items, if you don't have any idea who the original owner is. Nice find!

I wondered about that at first, that's why I asked where the van came from.... certainly can't fault the OP for keeping the money - it's hers. She & her dad bought the van.
Must not have been too terribly important to the original owner, I don't think I could forget or misplace that much cash.
I think my opinion may be different if the van had gone straight from the original owner to salvage - then she would know who the money belonged to, but that's not the case.....
it would similar to finding money laying in the parking lot vs. seeing someone drop money in the parking lot.Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

That's a lot of money. I would make a good faith search to find the owner, but it would be hard to ascertain truth.
Spiritual:
"You are fearfully and wonderfully made." Please... respect life.
Financial:
Debt free, hoping to stay that way!

I wonder if you could have the DMV to a plate search to find the possible owner.

I can think of only one reason that someone would discretely stash 1K in plastic bags under the seat of a now-repo'd van. That money is dirty. It probably should have been taken to the police.

i think if it is taken to the police and not claimed in 30 days, you get to keep it.
Step 1 $207/1500
Step 2 Student loan $160.00 monthly
Schewels paid
Step 3 $252/$15000
Step 4
Step 5 1 child in college graduates 12/12
2 child $50.00
Step 6 $70,761/$93,000
Step 7 Build wealth & give.

I've heard of money being taken to the police and them keeping it, dividing it among themselves. I would guess it's drug money if the van was repo'ed.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Excellent movie! Yeaaahhh.... ummmmm..... I'm gonna have to go ahead and get you to come in on Saturday, m'kay?
While I agree with the sentiment of making a whole-hearted effort to return what is lost, I think the circumstances surrounding this cash (and tools) justifies Stephanieg keeping it.
Congrats Steph! Maybe do something nice for someone with part of it?
