I make a list of all of the things I've accomplished this year.

then I take a walk on the beach and scout for seaglass.

I look at where we were before we started the frugal life.

We had significant personal debt. We had different views of what was "normal" in terms of debt/money/savings.

I look at where we are now and try to see where we will be in two more years. It might not feel like it but we are a heck of a lot closer to our goals.

This is the part of goal setting that needs to be realistic and achievable. If you put it on paper you have something to look back on and something to work toward.

I read, read, and read some more.

I'll re-read the Tightwad Gazette, read financial books, read online.

    That helps me.

It reminds me that others have traveled the road I'm on.

Try to remember where you started, how far you have come along, and where you are headed. Sit back and take in all that you do have. Shop your closet, you are bound to come across something you forgot about.

Check the paper to see if there are any free events going on in your area. Set aside me time and pamper yourself.

Then pat yourself on the back, it takes awhile to see all you have accomplished by being frugal. Just making the decision to be frugal can be a major accomplishment.

Start setting milestone rewards. If you have $200,000 worth of debt, it will never feel like you are getting anywhere. Depending on your payments, decide when to give yourself a little something as a reward. Maybe every $10,000, maybe $20,000, whatever.

These rewards, they don't have to be significant, they don't have to be costly. What they do need to be, though, is something you don't get very often, and something that is pleasing. Maybe a drive to the country, with a picnicc, and look for cloud animals.

The point is, paring down debt can become a drag. The only thing you have to look forward to, after a while, is no debt. Unfortunately, it can take forever to get there. Small things can mean the most in a life, so start experiencing more small things.

I read FV and my Total Money Makeover book. That always helps me to see that my goals are within reach. Hang in there and do something small for yourself.
