I made myself sick
The priest of our church is coming over Friday for dinner.Yesterday I scrubbed the kitchen with spic and span. Then Grandma started to help and used scrub and bubbles. Well while moving everything around I found 1 ROACH yuck yuck yuck. So I went and got stuff to bomb it. Today I bleached the whole kitchen and everything in it. I think I am going to die. double yucky

Can't stand roaches. I did use borax in a shallow container. I put it near pipes and anywhere the cats could not get to it. Seemed to help. The roach would go into the borax then take it back to the nest.
Unfortunately no matter how clean you keep your place you can still get them. What I am trying to say is, try to ease up on yourself. Sounds as if you are putting more stress on yourself with your priest coming to visit. Try not to stress out to much so you can atleast enjoy your dinner and visit!

I imagine you carried it in on something. Maybe from a yard sale or thrift? Even the grocery store.
I once was given a piece of furniture, a wardrobe. I had it in my place all of 10 minutes before I saw 3 roaches run out from under it. Talk about the heebeegeebees. I immediately went out and bought roach motels, I don't know if they even sell them anymore. But they worked, I didn't see another roach.~~~

I concur with DC.
As for making your place spotless for the priest - I wouldn't kill yourself over it. They're just as human as you and I'm sure they don't live in a museum.2012: The Year Of The Purge!

I can't believe there is a person alive who has never seen a roach. They are very common here, we have many varieties of them. Palmetto bugs are HUGE roaches, flying roaches, common roaches and German roaches are the most common. I made the mistake of putting my recycle bin inside the garage and ended up with roaches in the garage. We keep it outside now. I found these little tablets that look like breath mints, threw them all over the garage and within two days they were all gone.
Don't be so hard on yourself over a roach, for every one you have seen there are hundreds of them that have come and gone that you haven't. It's common and is no reflection on you. It's just one planet that we all share and occasionally we cross paths.

Hate those buggers!!..I lived in military housing many moons ago and had them so bad! The base exterminaters would spray and it did nothing. Hope that was just a random roach you found!

Growing up my Aunt would not keep her place clean so we had roaches, we would spray each month and it would not get rid of the bugs. The spray guy finally told us that he was told to come and spray but only spend so much time, this was not enough time to get rid of the bugs, but enough time to look like they did something.

I had never seen a roach before I moved to Florida after college. What an eye-opening experience! They were in cars, restaurants, everywhere!.. Yuck! I had always been taught they were a sign of not keeping your house and yard clean, but after moving down there I learned that was not true. Climate, baby, climate.
Absolutely get rid of the boxes. That is just inviting them to come and stay with such a yummy treat for them around!
