RANT - Directv
SO the 29th or 30th of last month, a salesman from Directv calls. Says that since I've been a customer for over 2 years (whoops make that since 2000) he can give me "new account deal"
1 year @ $29.95/ mo for the basic package
free premium movie package for 3 months
free showtime for 1 year
the second year will be $44.95/ mo
Sounds good so far - Wait a minute YOU already got a deal according to our records. If you give me the name of someone else in your house, I can give them the deal.
I set it up with my wife's info. He says that I need to have a new receiver to take advantage of the deal. I says that I already have the latest receiver. He says it didn't matter, I needed another one for the deal. I asked "How much?" he says nothing, the guy will come out at do it free - no extra charges.
Clarify the whole thing - I get the package above and installation of the receiver at no cost to me? Yes.
The guy comes out Monday and says I already have the latest receiver but he has to change it...Done. I get a bill for the new service Tuesday - $39.95 - recurring. I try to go online...can't. I call CS and explained what's going on. He said he changed the bill. Then we went through getting online. Ended up getting bumped up a level...Got through that. The bill said I owed $39.95..I'm waiting this out. Wednesday, my wife noticed a $28.95 charge to her debit card for hardware. I called and was told everyone gets that charge for a receiver. I said I don't, because I was told there is no charge for it. If there was a charge then take it out of the liar that sold me the package. Send me to your supervisor....No supervisor is available. You're wasting my cell phone minutes, have your supervisor call me back. OK. NO call back yet.
They also messed up on my last payment...said my CC was refused. No reason for that to happen - had plenty of money to cover the bill, not expired...called on that. Sorry we messed up. DO I owe you? NO. Got that guy's ID #
Next step is to cancel the debit cards then get new numbers. It's going to be a tough row to hoe, but I don't believe I will pay them anything other that the $28.95 they have. They are charging me for something I didn't agree too. I consider the agreement invalid. They can cancel my service and take the equipment and not charge me an early termination fee. They can take me to court over that if they wish. I'll go to the Attorney General to get the ball rolling on ANOTHER suit against them for improper practices (They've settled 2 since 2005)
UNLESS I get the call-back and get the $28.95 returned to me.

Yep We signed up for it last year had to keep it for 1 year to have the good rate without a cancellation fee. Ok so I waited 1 week after the 12 months came. Canceled and switched to a local one that had cable, internet and home phone (business) for $97.00 great price since we were paying $99 for cable and just internest and phone was $60.00. I got a bill in the mail for $311 for cancellation fee. I called and said the contract reads i could cancel after 12 months and i did. They said it was 12 months from the time i got my first bill not the time i signed up WTF. They have a old debit card number so they don't have our new one. I'm trying to fight it. If you do a google search. They have horrible customer service and rip you off with cancellation fee's. Wish i knew it them would have never signed up.

I called the Attorney General by the way and they took my number and name and account number. But they said they have a back log of many years and many ticked consumers.

I can say that DirecTV has a terrible reputation and I hated them when I had them. Granted, all of the cable companies I have had to deal with haven't been the easiest either.

Now that the rant is over, I will probably forget about it until they charge me for the movie channels which I WILL drop early before they are supposed to charge me. I also WILL drop Directv at the end of the two years. And I will file a complaint with the Attorney General's office.
Thanks,

We have had Directv for a very long time and when the regular TV stations changed to digital you had to buy a converter or pay for it through Directv...welll I call them and the person I talked to said that I should be getting my local channels already because of the package I had but I had an old receiver (it really was old) and would need a new one to be able to get the local channels ok...so I get a new receiver and dish free of charge and low and behold still no local channels...called them again and the lady said that I should be getting them and she would fix that I asked her if she was sure and she said yes passed me on to the next person and they said no I have to pay for them and I told them I was just told that the package I had had them included ..so we argued a bit and I told them that they better start training their sales people better because they are lying to the customers....turned them in to the Better Business Bureau.
still don't have my local channels yet...

yeah, DirecTV is pretty much the devil. I strongly discourage ANYONE to do business with them. They are super shady and unless you are willing to invest the time/money to threaten to take them to court/go through all the steps to get them to pay you back, you WILL end up losing money. I just had to pay over $400 for a cancelled account "early termination fee". They tried to charge more for 2 months service after it was cancelled and a receiver that they had gotten back from us.

Have had problems with Directv, cable, and Verizon. Always seems as if customer service and the service people are on two different planets. Right now am with cable. Was thinking of switching to Directv but now will forget that idea.
