Thumbs up Frugal Dinner Realization :)

After spending the day shopping with dad, we made a realization as we were prepping dinner....each portion cost less then $2/person with enough leftovers for each to have the same meal with the same portions for tomorrow and then some other bonus leftovers.

    $6.99 - rotisserie chicken
    $1.99 - 4 cobs of corn
    $1.65 - 1/2 bag of perogies
    -------------
    $10.63 Total

Works out $1.77/meal for 6 portions - with bonus leftovers

And to think we just threw dinner together last minute from our bargain hunting.

Isn't it wonderful?! Just imagine if you would have decided to do take-out instead.....more expensive, poor food and no leftovers!! Cooking at home is the best!

We never set out to make a frugal dinner - thats prob why it feels so awesome to realize it

Rotisserie chicken is hard to resist b/c its still cheaper then buying a raw whole chicken and the bonus is that its already seasoned, cooked and my house doesn't smell like a rotisserie chicken restaurant

Oh how I wished you had posted this at the beginning of the week. I fell off my frugal wagon this week regarding meals. We ate out twice, we don't do this often, and we spent about 50.00 on just the two of us. So way to go to you! My husband just asked me to make homemade bread and I have a casserole in the oven so I guess I'm back on.

I love rotisserie chicken, too! I remember it from my grandmother buying it as a treat. A few weeks ago I thought I would try it again, as I was pressed for time. Well, when I got it home I thought there had been a mistake-it looked like a large cornish hen! They are so small now. It was barely enough for the 5 of us to have a taste, and I remember lots of leftovers from the ones in the past.

I'll have to keep my eyes open to see if I can find a better deal out there.

    Thumbs up Frugal Dinner

    THANKS LIBBY !!

I have already made out next week's menu in my mind, based on the rotisserie chicken that I will be getting first thing tomorrow. Great frugal idea!

Wow - never even knew they sold day old rotisserie chicken. Our hot food counters close about an hour or so before the store closes so they slash the price drastically and announce over PA system to get everyone to come running. They'd rather sell at lower price then have to fridge it I guess.

I think thats pretty cool that they take $2 off

I always calculate in my head what dinner costs. I started telling hubby and he now "gets" me buying in bulk, stocking up on loss leaders, hitting the salvage store, using coupons, etc.
