It will drop like a rock in the morning..........and I don't think it will come back much even by the end of the day.
AND........just heard this AM that if we don't get some SERIOUS DUCKS IN A ROW........the other two agencies aren't above lowering the credit rating also!!!
THEY WERE WARNED by S and P that if they didn't come up with 4 T in the debt package that it would be LOWERED!!!!
HEEEELLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO.............and they all acted like it was "such a surprise".......

i think it is going to be a long bumpy scary road for all of us...
i personally think that it is going to be rough going for everyone...I think that we as a society have evolved so much that there are people out there that are not going to be able to handle the things that are going to be thrown at us...whether it be a demographic area which prevents them from being able to plant their own gardens for food...or just some people out there that are accustomed to fancy living...I am gonna wait to hear the news and read the news and see what other people think might happen...Tuesday will be big shopping day for me...just in case you never know...however i will survive because i am not accustomed to all the fancy things...Never had it so i wont miss it...

I think the stock market will be farther down by the end of the week. And I think we'll see more inflation... I'm trying to stock up on things we use a lot of as a 'just in case'.

It will open stocks will be traded lol
It will go up and down that is what it does.
They say to watch the Asian stock market to see what ours will do the Asian market has just opened for Monday.
They also say the investors will be looking to the earning reports from a few big stocks that are coming up if they are good the market will probably go up.
I personally do not see doom and gloom on the market it goes up it goes down.
I remember watching the stock market ticker with my father he would say made money lost money made money... All with in a few mins.
I became comfortable with the up and down breath of the market.
Now if dad said these things made money lost money to my mother her whole mood would change happy and sad. So he switched to telling her every once in a while but he learned if he said " he made money" she spent if he said "he lost money" she would go one spending freeze.
He learned not to tell her how the market was doing.
She did not seem to realize that the market goes up and down that is it life breath."Everyday as your walking down the street, everybody that you met has an original point of view" -Arthur PBS

I personally take offense at the S & P...
taking the liberty of downgrading us when they (as well as Moody's & Fitch) rated the "subprime" loans A+ while they were going belly up. Also, it bothers me that the MAJORITY of the trading on the market is done as high frequency trading and no longer can the "average" investor invest (unless you do no loads through your 401k or a Roth. My father had GREAT success in the market and I have a pretty good sixth sense as well...luckily, prior to Bush taking office, when my company was sold, I put my 401k into savings it was still in there after 9/11 and the way things have gone SINCE then I never reinvested as well as I inherited a great deal of Whirlpool stock, which I did not like being so heavily leveraged so I sold all but 20% (and just in time) and bought a long term CD where it still is. My brother in law is a commodity broker on the Board of Trade in Chicago and always said to buy the "old stodgy stock". The problems we are now facing is just ANOTHER problem with globalization as now our economies are so intertwined that if one suffers, we all suffer and the old addage of "diversify your portfolio" no longer applies as you were told to buy not only US stocks but international stocks which they now are ALL sinking and as I told my mom earlier today, you listen to ANY financial advisor on TV and they ALL try to say with calm in their voice, yet a twitch in their lip...everything will be ok...I never felt all of the shoes dropped the FIRST time and that what we are seeing is a slow moving train wreck that is gradually gaining speed. Sorry to be such an optimist...take care everyone and hold on tight.

I remember watching the stock ticker with my father when I was a child and a teenager. He is no longer alive for me to discuss market with.

And in case you were wondering, Canada has a AAA rating now it earned it back in 2002 I think it was. If not then it was there about.

I think it will drop, but it's not going to plummet. This isn't going to affect my long-term investing strategy.
Part of my strategy has been to invest in large US companies with significant overseas exposure, so that when things got bad here, at least they weren't as bad overseas. Also in companies that pay dividends. Ironically, 2 of the companies I own that fit those criteria STILL have AAA ratings - higher than the US government (XOM and JNJ).
Longer term I think interest rates will go up (good for those high-yield savings account!) and we'll see a lot of inflation. Heck, we have a lot of inflation now, but the government doesn't want to admit it, the same way that they don't want to admit that unemployment is a lot higher than "official" figures.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

good time to buy?
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
