    Default AC is out!! Grrrrr (just venting!)

    So yesterday the AC went out. I noticed it was blowing warmish air and the outside unit wasn't working. Turned it off all day. WHen hubby got home he clicked it on and it worked. Yay!? No. Woke up this morning and the house was freezing. It hadn't shut off all night. Turned it off and left for a few hours, came home and now it won't come back on. Hubby replaced the likely suspect- a contact something that had burned out, but now it won't kick on at all, inside or out.

    Luckily it ws only 95 today, compared to 100, and our house is pretty well insulated. But it's uncomfortable if you aren't doing anything and downright sweaty if you are. Oh boy. He's still working on it, but so far we're baffled. Really don't have $ to call somebody to come fix it, so I guess we will cope until we can get it figured out.

    Here's hoping for any early Fall. >:{

    Same thing happened to us!! I'm in MI though and our weather was only high 70's today. Lucky for us weather shows no 90's for the week. We only got air when we moved in here 21 years ago and we survived; we will survive again. We are going to check prices for replacing air cond and furnace and just air cond. We also figure if we wait until the weather cools down more maybe it will be less expensive to replace. Hard to figure out who to call though.

    I think our window ac in on the pooper (less cool air coming out, but still some).. I'm just trying to get through this month with it.. We can't afford a new one right now, but do plan on getting one by next summer..

    We rent and could get our landlord to get one, but they are very frugal and we know it will be another used one, so we are going to get it ourselves..

    Best of Luck on staying cool!!

    Last night was fine, we do have a big exhaust fan in the attic that helps circulate air in the house, but it feels humid already today. Gonna get all my laundry and house work done this morning, take a cool shower and think cold thoughts this afternoon.

    That would be great Lora and we would keep all the people at frugal village working. Someone in here was talking about windows and my dh does that!

    We're not sure if we should just replace a/c or do the furnace too!

    Good news! Turns out there was a breaker inside the attic unit as well as outside, so, all we had to do is reset it. Yay!

    All in all, it wasn't too bad. I think we could actually be OK without the AC and have decided to set the thermostat higher because of this to save energy and because it feels so good to have cool air after having none.

    Thanks for the well wishes!!
