    Default Big changes coming!

I have been away from the village for a few months, and I have missed you folks and the feeling of relating to people who share some of my same values and perspective. Our family is preparing for a pretty big shift in the coming weeks. My DH is resigning from his full time job as a delivery truck driver and is starting college full time. He will be using the GI Bill and studying to be a machinist. His current take home pay is about 2400 monthly, and the GI Bill provider a stipend of $950. That is based on the zip code you live in and the cost of housing in the area. We recently paid off a vehicle, which is a savings of $570 monthly, and our DS is starting kindergarden this year. That reduces our child care costs by $200 monthly. He still needs some before and after school care. Obviously that still leaves us will a net reduction in our budget. DH does plan to work part time through his current employer and/or by taking assignments with an employment agency. We are also examining our spending habits and taking steps to reduce our grocery and phone bills. We will also be shutting off our cable completely. I am actually looking forward to the belt tightening. It is empowering and gives me a sense of purpose and accomplishment. If anyone has advice to give or is in a similar situation, please share!

Its amazing at what you can save on once you make up your mind. About every six months I sit down and list 50 ways to save money and even though most of them are ways I save now, once in a while i come up with a new one in that 50 !!
