Some one inquired about buying my house yesterday.
I was out weeding the garden when an Amish buggy pulled in the yard. It was an older gentleman and a young couple. The older gentleman joked and said if I sold him my house they would weed my garden
He asked if we were interested in selling. I told him we planned to sell for something smaller and closer to work once the last child graduated in 3 years.
He asked what I paid and did I think the value of the house and barn had gone down. I laughed and said no way on the house. Yes on the barn as that was next summers project when we had the cash saved for the redo. I told him of course The house value was up since we bought 13 years ago.
He inquired about how much land we owned. How many bedrooms etc. He also wanted to know who owned the land that connected to our fields. Lots of ?'s.
I told him if he really was serious to give me a proposal in writing and I would give it to my husband. Ironically our home was Amish before we bought it.
I really don't think he will bring a proposal. I think he was fishing for a bargain as a cash buyer. Dh and I did discuss what offer we would sell for though. There are many empty country rentals in the range of our payment without the expense of keeping up a 166 year old house. Our house is just a very old farm house with some land. Nothing special. Nothing of great value. We had one developer stop and make a low ball offer about 8 years ago. We have had 2 offers by farmers to buy the land which makes total sense. Now watch when we are serious about selling the old relic will sit!
I enjoyed the conversation with the Amish
I had to laugh when at the end he said I guess you get to weed your own garden today Mrs _______.

Funny. If you sold him the house it would be his garden to weed anyway!
A very interesting proposition to mull over though. The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

I dont really expect him back. I have lots of Amish within a mile. I think the young couple may be looking for a home. Amish are usually cash buyers and I think he saw a big empty field and thought to inquire. I will fall over if he comes back!
We do plan to sell and get something rural but smaller in 3 years

Great story..............and at least you know that people are watching you/your property.........that will be some great help when you do decide to sell.
