    Question Favourite Fair/Carnival/Festival Foods?

Freshly made kettle chips, buffalo fries, corn dogs, cotton candy, ice slushes, deep fried chocolate bars, candy apples, waffle ice cream sandwhiches etc etc etc.

What is your favourite junky food item that you can only get at a fair/carnival/festival? How often do you look for it / actually eat it?

(Thought about this after a discussion over in the LAPAW thread)

Mine would be the freshly made corn dog - can't be a frozen one thats been re-deep fried. There's something about the batter being freshly cooked to perfection. Another fave is a freshly squeezed lemonade - super overpriced but so tasty! I usually get this at the annual fair - its a tradition.

Deep fried oreos, fried dough. Could make both at home, really, but theres something about the taste at the fair, combined with all the sights and sounds and other smells , just cant be duplicated. And we always get an ear of roasted corn at the state fair. Its a tradition!

Deep fried oreos and funnel cake. I think the smell of them being made wafting through the fair grounds just makes it even more exciting.

    Fried pickles and funnel cakes.

Although, I make them at home anytime, not get them at the fair.

In all honesty though, I avoid the fair like the plague. It is really dirty. People are walking around in the crowd smoking like chimneys, cussing, wearing pants below their butt cracks, groping each other, carnies making cat calls at high school aged girls...

Deep fried twinkies! I tried deep fried butter for the first time this year, it was way too... buttery I guess lol. I got it from the same booth selling deep fried maggots and snake on a stick.

I haven't been to the county fair in many years, and I was a 4-Her, so I did my time. But I do love a chocolate-dipped frozen banana at a festival/fair.

My DH and I do go to Celtic/Scottish festivals several times a year (we have friends who play in a band, and we work their booth for them), and although now I always bring all our food, in the past, I have really enjoyed meat pies and fish and chips. Also fun to get frozen lemonades and add whiskey to them.

THAT is what made you faint... NOT the fried MAGGOTS????

My favorite fair food is slush... no matter how hard I try, I can not replicate a real Richies Slush at home.

There is a city about 75 miles south of me called Opp. Every year they have the Rattlesnake Rodeo. It's not a rodeo, like bull riding and barrel racing. It is a festival revolving around rattlesnakes. They have snake displays, snake wrangling, snake exhibits, snake shows, etc...Of course, rattlesnake is on the menu (along with alligator).

I love it all funnel cake, candy apples not caramel, but the flies just make it not worth it. so we don't have it at homemade during fair season.
