Post Article: Kroger Refuses to Take Coupons

Thought this was interesting - I'm sure this is starting to happen all over. I'm wondering if this person was 'targeted' for lack of a better term b/c she's a 'habitual coupon user'.

wow!! My local kroger has a sign at each register saying it won't take the coupons you print yourself.
To be considered a habitual coupon user is a compliment??? or insult?? She has a large family and everyone is trying to make ends meet in this economy. If I was closer, I would go to that Kroger with a wheelbarrow full of coupons!! hahaha!
That extreme coupon show has made it hard on all of us

AND I WOULD GO RIGHT ALONG WITH YOU!

I love to 'trip the stores up' on their "own fine offers".

We don't have Kroger here.........but have Fred Meyer and I don't like it and seldom shop there.

Being a couponer here I got to point this out.

She shops weekly and used coupons, then why is she buying 10 bottles of body wash at one time?

I think we are seeing an article about a coupon abuser. Most stores now limit you to 4 of the same coupon per trip, some only 3. All thanks to that damn show of course.

I am not sure I am on this lady's side on this one, this like most articles seems one sided.

I think she should be complimented on being a coupon user who has a family of 10 trying to save money any way she can with this economy! What about those kroeger deals where they want you to buy 10 items to get a better deal??? I shop at Kroegers wkly but don't use alot of coupons.
I've seen that coupon show & never have see any of those shoppers in my kroeger store. LOL

more likely they said she was a habitual coupon abuser
alot of what those shows is incorrect usage of coupons

ie buying incorrect sizes or actual wrong items because someone posted a coupon will scan for them even though not what it states on the coupon

maybe its a limit of 2 per person and she and 4 of her kids have lined up individual purchases - IMO unless your child has a job they use to pay for their own health and beauty aides they dont get their own CVS discount card or get to act as an individual consumer to get or use a coupon ,

many stores will overlook it - but if several people are emptying shelves doing it so regular customers cant get a sale item - thats not a good thing .

I doubt someone who goes in follows the limits and rules without trying to stretch out the gray areas would be denied - makes no sense.

too many couponers are out for bragging rights they want to say i got this and only spent that which is great but those shows arent realistic they arent regular shopping they are a coupon only shopping .

i always liked to fly under the radar if i was getting 4 boxes of popsicles and 4 things of bandaides free after coupon - i added in a gallon of milk in as to not draw attention to myself

too many new breed of couponers llike on TV crave the attention they get when they do well -

As a couponer, I also shop once a week, only going in for the "deals" that week.

If body wash was what was on sale that week, that's the week you buy 10 bottles of it.

We haven't had any Kroger's in this area (metro Atlanta) put limits on quanity (yet)

One Publix near my home has a limit of 6 BOGO deals per transaction - so that's 12 items, but no limit on other merchandise - only the BOGOs.

Or I can drive 2 miles further to a different Publix that has no limits on BOGO items.

Anyway, I'm in no way saying I think people should clear the shelves - or buy pallets of cereal at one time - but 10 bottles of body wash isn't a biggie IMO.

BUT there's always another side to every story - the media only gives us the side they want us to hear..... so there's no telling?

the media wouldnt know about it - if the woman didnt go to the media - most people call or email corporate when unhappy .not the local news...... unless they are looking for attention or money .

its nice she is trying to save money with her family of ten but its not the stores job to provide for or make allowances for her ( if her not following rules is a part of the issue ) - she choose that big a family in one way or another - i have a family of 7 that doesnt entitle me to any more than a single customer deserves ,

we dont have their side of the story - she may have gone in every day that week so far and he knew the only way to limit her was to say no the coupons ,

the article seems to put a bit of emphasis that they ask their couponers who buy in larger quantities to make special arrangements so others dont lose out . so i am thinking this was not her first trip that week or day even for 10 or she had a 2 limit divided into 5 seperate orders

reminds me of the lady that was suing the mall security for posting a video of her texting and falling into the fountain - when all came out she had a warrent for her arrest and was known for trying to sue walmarts for fake suits for falls .

you just never know the whole story

I agree 100% - She had to seek out the media attention - and I oh so agree that she may have been in the store every day for the past week clearing shelves - we won't know that side -

I can tell you that I'm also in the metro Atlanta area, same as this woman - and I've never been to a Kroger that had any limits set on how many of an item you can purchase.

Maybe they do if you buy carts full, I've never done that - so honestly, I don't know.....

I do think that shows like Extreme Couponing both hurt the perception of those of us that do our best to play by the rules, as well as pulls in newbies that may abuse policies.

The idea should never be to screw the stores out of money, but to do our best to stretch our money as far as possible while still supporting the store's rules - They shouldn't loose money - they are reimbursed by the manf. for the coupon value.

That's why it's so important to pay attention to the details of our coupons - and not buy items that are the incorrect size, style, etc. (IMO)

I've had those negative experiences where a cashier is rude about coupons - NOT often, but it's happened (most often at Walmart)

But then, I've had really positive experiences with cashiers that were very supportive.

I almost hope that this is a case of the woman being unreasonable - it would be a shame to find out that the store manager may have done this to other shoppers.

I went to Rite aid on the first day of a sale and they limited me to ten items as they did not have enough of the item. Why run a sale if you only have 20 items. It is bait and switch and I will coupon them into oblivion.

I have a bigger issue with her trying to gain sympathy by throwing out the fact that she has a family of 10. It's irrelevant to the situation, and is only there so that we think the manager is a bad guy. Kroger's coupon policy states they can deny accepting any and all coupons if they so choose. Well, they so chose.
