Yay, I need surgery!
A few days ago I noticed a painful swelling on my left side. Sometimes it hurt nonstop, sometimes just when I touched it. I couldn't lay on my belly and my pants put enough pressure on it to make them uncomfortable. I already had an appointment for Tuesday with my doctor, so I let it ride till then. Over the weekend though I was freakin' out. Can you imagine all the crazy things I diagnosed myself with, having a painful mass in my side? I knew that it was most likely an ovarian cyst, but that would have been a much to simple diagnosis for a master worrier like myself.
At the appointment I let the doctor know what's going on, and when he finally gets around to poking my tummy, I squeal when he hits it. After a few more seconds, he says "Excuse me for a second" and walks straight out of the room. Creepy, yeah? He comes back and I ask "You felt it, didn't you?" He says he did, and that it was big, and that we need an ultrasound today. The staff at his office called around everywhere to get me an appointment for an ultrasound, but it would have been weeks. I get sent to the ER instead.
After hours of waiting I found out I have a 9 cm cyst on my left ovary. I'm going need surgery, and because I can't get a doctor in my network to refer me because none of them have appointments open, I'm probably going to have to just show up in the ER to have it done. (They actually wanted to do the surgery yesterday but I had eaten a banana and they couldn't.)
I can't wait to get this done and over with. The doctor says it could have been there for months. Last month I had some bad nausea and he said that's probably what was causing it. I've also noticed that even though I've been walking every day, my pants are tighter and my belly just seems to protrude more a feel heavier than it should for my weight. I can't wear jeans at all now because it puts so much pressure on my tum.
Surgery is a little scary and I'm not all that thrilled about the fact that this episode has put us back in our school work for an entire week, but I'm so happy that this has happened NOW rather than 6 months ago. My husband would have been out at sea, and my friends were always happy to help but always super busy themselves. Yesterday I had several neighbors helping me get my car jumped and watching my kids so that I could get to my appointment and to the ER. My doctors have also been bending over backwards to find out what was wrong and get me my referrals. My mom is flying out tonight to help with the kids.
Wish me luck! I'm kind of nervous, but super excited to get this over with!!~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Good luck. My mom had the same issue when I was in grade school. My father actually rushed her to the ER because hers burst in the middle of the night. She had no pain or discomfort. She was leaning over the tub cleaning when she felt the pain (when it burst). She had surgery the next morning and was on bed rest for a while. I think her bed rest was so long because back then she had actual staples in her stomach from the long incision they made. I'm sure it's much simpler now.

Thanks guys. I know it's weird to be excited about surgery, but this thing is really painful and disruptive so I'm just thrilled that they've got a solution rather than telling me to wait and see or whatnot. This thing is huge. Doc said it was the size of a newborn baby's head. The Mr. told me last night that I've basically got a baby in there, minus the joyous creation of new life.
