I really cannot answer that in a generalization. Everything is item by item.
I used to pay $$$ for "good" eyeglasses. After a year, no one wants to adjust/repair them even if your script is still the same. I now buy $7 glasses online and if they need repair - who cares. Oddly enough, I get more complements on my cheapies?!?!?
The "cheap" kids clothes I buy have outlasted the "quality brand" that MIL purchased for them. If the kids have an accident in the cheapies, who cares? I was picking them up from Sunday School on day. There was a little paint mishap in kiddie corner. The teacher was in tears to start with because she was always very careful but stuff happens. She explained to mom#1 and apologized as best as she could Mom went crazy, yelling in the hall, yelling at the kid all the way out the door "I just paid $$$ for X clothing...". Teacher was ready to pass out by the time we got there. I just said "no problem, he's a kid, that's why I use Walmart clearance/thrift/hand-me-downs" (I also put starch in the rinse which help more stains rinse out and give the clothes a "new" look).
Now my furniture I want to last a little longer. I go for more traditional styles and I purchase with "forever" in mind so no paper coated flakeboard there. It's real wood.

Depending on the item, I'd probably pay 25% more.
What really ticks me off, is that it used to be, a long time ago, a higher price meant higher quality. Now it doesn't anymore - a higher price just means you're paying more for advertising and branding. I just wish there was truly a way to tell if something was a quality item without spending hours and hours researching it. I don't mind that doing for a car, but I'd like to know if the shirt I just bought will last 6 weeks or 6 years.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

I would love to be able to say I only buy items made in America and I am always willing to pay extra, but that's just not the case.
It really varies as to how much more I am willing to pay, what I am willing to pay more for and what I am not.DD (19)

All I can say is Victoria Secret's. Whatever they are doing, they're doing it right. Quality. Comfort. Beauty. Do they cost more? Absolutely and I will continue to pay it as long as they continue to provide that to me.
There's so much more to buying than just price. I've been to both extremes of spender and tightwad over the years and I'm still trying to find a balance. I do believe we all "vote with our wallets" out there. If its crap DON'T BUY IT. SPREAD THE WORD. The more people keep paying for less quality the more it will be produced.
That is all. *hops off her soap box in an adorable camisole & robe*LDR
