    Default Hurricane Irene

Well I think I am as ready as I can be for this hurricane. I even took all the plants off the balcony and front stoop. Am more inland but figured I would rather be safe than sorry. The path looks like we will be getting strong winds.

Have water in stockpots, a good stockpile of canned goods, freezer is packed with extra containers of water so it is full and will stay cold longer in case power goes out. Have a bag of necessities and cat carrier just in case. My place looks like a disaster zone with all the outside stuff indoors and items from the closets cleared out. Figure I need a place to go to without windows. Have flashlights, batteries, electric candles, radio, and candles ready. Only thing I still need to do is fill the bathtub with water. Will be keeping my fingers crossed that the trees do not come down. There are tall trees right around my place and I am hoping the rain and winds do not bring them down.

Thanks for listening to me ramble. We have had hurricane alerts here before but for some reason I am really nervous about this one. Have the tv off since it is non-stop updates which I understand but it just makes me more anxious.

I hope everyone who is affected by this is safe.

Thank goodness for FV and all threads on preparation otherwise I would probably be a basket case right now.

Hang in there, Shoiji, sounds like you are VERY prepared. Good job! Now try to find something to do to take your mind off everything and relax.

Expecting the worse but hoping for the best here. Doesn't look good for the Delaware river by Monday. It's been 5 years since the last major flood and that one about sent me over the edge. DO NOT want to live in a FEMA trailer ever again! This time I'm home alone with the kiddos as DH is on a 24 shift and if they declare a state of emergency then he won't be coming home until that is lifted. Everyone please stay safe, hunker down and stay off the roads!!!

Ending up taking ibuprofen for my back and taking a nap. So that helped. Looks like worst of storm will be around mid-night. Hopefully I can sleep right through it. Only thing making me feel better is one of the evacuation shelters is nearby so figure it should not be that bad.

Thanks for all the support. Very comforting right now. Stay safe. Keeping fingers crossed power stays on. Planning on watching a movie before going to bed.

The news makes it seem so scary. I thank everyone for their informative posts. Wishing the best for you and prayers offered up. Hopefully it will be much less than predicted.

Everything seems to be ok here except can't figure out what is going on with my cat.

Am going to go outside to get an idea if there are any trees down.

Shoji, I'm glad you made it through the night okay - thinking of you! Be careful out there - it can be dangerous to go walking around after a storm!
