As an all-purpose cleaner, I use this one all the time.
1 part white vinegar, 1 part water, 1 part grated bar soap
scented oil as desired
a splash of vegetable glycerin if desired
(The vegetable glycerin helps to keep the product from separating but you can just shake it if you'd like.)
Mix all the stuff together and store in a spray bottle. You can mix it in a blender or just shake it vigorously. Use it on anything - depending on the kind of soap you use this is so organic you could eat it with no ill effects.

I just use vinegar & water in a spray bottle.
Baking soda to do tubs, sinks, etc.
Laundry Detergent: 1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, 1 cup Borax, 1 bar of soap/ grated - use 1/8 cup per load.
I suggest buying plain white vinegar by the gallon. It's less expensive that way.
Old rags/washclothes/t shirts to use as cleaning cloths.Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

If you really really really feel like you need a "cleaner", SimpleGreen is pretty economical. You buy a spray bottle (doller store ones work fine) and dilute it down 1 oz SimpleGreen to 30 oz water (2 tbsp or 1/8 cup is an ounce).
We have been doing a massive house cleaning/house clean out/painting thing. I have several bottles (okokok, about five or six) of cleaner that I bought for 50¢ a while back knowing that this major house redo was coming (wanted to have plenty on hand so we could just grab and "squirt" and also wanted plenty to go around). As the bottles get empty, I have been consolidating them and filling the empty bottles with the 30:1 SimpleGreen solution. The SimpleGreen bottles clean way better than the store-bought cleaner.
Oh yeah, old socks cut up the bottom are the best rags ever. We had been saving our old socks for a while because of the house redo. They are great disposable rags. Ours are mainly the ankle length white ones.Last edited by zakity; 08-28-2011 at 10:54 PM.

I use Simple Green @ work ~ it's fantastic!
It's NOT expensive - it's about $10 per gallon at Home Depot - not sure what the Sam's price may be?
One gallon would last you an incredibly long time.Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die
