Default How long is the school day where you live?

Next year our day will increase by approx an hour each day.

Elementary students currently have 7 hour days ( from tardy bell to dismissal bell) next year that will be 8 hour days. Voluntary after school activities until 5:30 ( Little Miss did Video broadcasting last year)

High school will have an 8 hour school day next year too currently a 7 hour school day. But there are three activities periods attached to the day that a student can attend. plus voluntary/mandatory tutoring.

1)Before school some sports and things like band practice or school play these are generally extra practices. Some of those start at 5:30 (school starts here are 7:45)
    2) sports practice after school (school gets out a 2:50) until 5:00 or 5:30pm
    3) tutoring voluntary and/or mandatory after school until 4 pm
    4) non sport activities like debate, music, school play, some clubs etc from 6 to 9 pm

How long are school days where you live?

My oldest attended a charter prep school the last three years he was in school. He was at his bus stop by 6 am and home by 4:30 pm. It was a pretty long day, I don't know if they plan on increasing school hours or not.

One school out this way is going to a 4 day school week and increasing the school day by one hour to save money. Schools are hard against it around here. In fact the school district where my Sister lives is closing! I've never even heard of such a thing.

The public schools in this city have seven hour days for all grades K-12. Start and end times vary from school to school though.

The private school DS attends have six hour fifty minute days. The elementary kids go from 8:30-3:20, middle school from 8:00 to 2:50 and the high school from 7:40 to 2:30.

Athletic practices cannot begin until 3:00. The high school has an optional thirty minute tutorial session available to all students in all classes from 2:30-3:00 daily.

Ds plays several varsity sports and is basically at school everyday from 7:20 until after 6:00. During football season he is a JV and varsity starter, plays on both Friday and Monday nights. Those games do not end until after 9:00 pm. Those nights we don't get home until at least 9:30. He is also at school on Saturdays during football season for weight lifting and watching game film. During track & field, wrestling and baseball season, he never gets home until after 6:00 because of weight training, conditioning and practice. Competition, game and event days last longer. During the summer he is at the school every M-F from 7:30 am until 10:30 am for weight lifting and conditioning. There is literally one week a year - the week of Christmas, that he is not at the school.

High school is 6:45 hours, including an hour for lunch and two 10 min breaks between classes. Elementary is 5 1/2 hours for lower, 6 hours for upper, with a 15 min recess and an hour for lunch.

I don't have any kids in Jr. high, so I don't know how long they go.

Private school - K-5 (not sure what the public school hours are)

Before school child-care starts at 7:30
    General Doors - 8:15
    Tardy Bell - 8:30
    Dismissal Bell - 2:15
    After school child-care/activities from 2:30-6

    10 tardy = 1 detention

a "normal" day usually runs 8:15- 2:20 (they linger when it comes time to leave)
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!
