Back Packs for kids
The thread about snacks in school got me to thinking about children who don't have a snack and if they don't have snacks to bring to school then what are they eating on the weekends?
Apparently someone at my dd's school was concerned about that too because a teacher is heading an after school club called back packs for kids.
The club will meet after school on Tuesdays to fill up backpacks with food for kids on a list to take home with them on Fridays. The club will be in charge of collecting food, fundraising and budgeting the funds to purchase food with.
How do I know all this? Because my dd came home today begging me to let her be in the Club! I'm so proud of my little lady.
Does anyone know if their school has such a club?

I have heard of the backpack supply of food for the weekend. Think it is a great idea. Great that your daughter wants to participate.

How wonderful that your daughter wants to help!

Yes, I've heard of it. They did it in my Sister's school district.
One of the churches out her way did it to. The kids go to the church after school to hang out so they are safe from gangs (or sadly their own parents) they fed them supper and help with their homework and send them home with food and snacks for themselves and any other siblings that may be in the household. They also provide clothing from their clothes pantry for the kids who come. I helped there as a tutor on Tuesday nights last year and was super surprised by the number of boys that were there. Lots of kids who need a helping hand out there, very sad.~~~

The fliers are EVERYWHERE, in both large and small businesses, not just in shopping stores either where one would hope you would buy the products.
I don't know if this link will work for everyone but here is the actual flier: http://www.thompson.k12.co.us/Bullet...idsSucceed.pdfLDR

There is a federal program with backpacks filled for food for children to take home and eat on the weekend and school holidays. It uses state foodbank food and is run through the state foodbank. Our school found the federal program to restrictive and not reaching enough children so the town took it over and runs it on donation and volunteers.
