Our local paper was talking about this and it mentioned a list of little towns that their only post office in town is on the list of offices that will be closed. Those people were worried that they would have a hard time and have to go over to another town to do postal business. The newspaper said No they could buy stamps and stuff from their rural mail carrier.

So people really need to go to that post office anymore? You can buy stamps at Walgreen, wal-mart, and the grocery stores. You can have packages picked up where you are.

Only with priority mail..............anything else has to be taken to PO.

I am all for discontinuing Saturday delivery......think they could cut
Wednesday too. The people/businesses can work around it if they need to.

Whatever they do am sure there will be some layoffs. Sad.

I will be losing my very favorite post office if all the closures go
through.......sad.......seldom any line at Xmas.......quick service...
    small..............in and out!!

Yes. I know I need to go to the post office from time to time. I live in a complex and can't have a standard mailbox and oversized items have to be picked up at the post office because of it. They cant get in to the building and dont want to just leave large packages in the lobby for whomever.

I also don't want to have to buy a postage scale for the few times I question if the envelope needs extra stamps.

Speaking of "extra stamps"... try mailing a package in an outside postal box with a TON of stamps on it... Expect a visit from "officially dressed people". It's better to go in and have it metered.

I do agree that the postal service needs a revamping. I get my routine bills online. The occassional test result from a doctor, medical bills and investment papers come in the mail. (Financial planners are not allowed to send email containing account information... general fund, yes, but not individual accts).

90% of what comes in my mailbox is junk mail and solicitations. The other 10% is information and paperwork (with a splashing of freebies )

It's the 10% that matters to me most and I would really hate to have to get my results/paperwork/information via fed-ex because the costs would get passed on to me.

Would I be okay if they closed all but one office in my town, yes. Would I be okay if they closed all of them? That depends on how far I would have to drive.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I agree that if they were open on some hours that are not the regular 9 to 5 it would be helpful. Our local post office closes for an hour for lunch......ummm tiny thought but it isn't that hard to have someone eat their lunch and then trade places with the person at the window. Unless it is a one person show, I don't think any business needs to close up during lunch time.
