Astounded at learning something new
Can you remember a time when you leanred something new that just astounded you? I'm not talking about learning that your mother had been married 10 times before you were born, or other sensational things. Just the common little things of life.
For example, in grade school, we studied the blood circulation system in the body. I can remember just staring at the blue lines on the back of my hand and thinking, "who knew?". I was astounded to think that my blood was racing all over my body, and I had never known it.
Later, I was astounded to learn that a bagel was considered to be more than one bread serving on nutritional charts. Are you kidding? It's one piece of bread! How can it be more than one serving? I eat a bagel all at once. Isn't that one serving? Sadly, I had to accept that a bagel was like 2 and 1/2 servings of bread.
Any memories of astounding discoveries?Spiritual:

I remembering feeling that way when I saw mitosis under the microscope in a biology class. Amazed at how our cells work...in grade school, we studied the blood circulation system in the body. I can remember just staring at the blue lines on the back of my hand and thinking, "who knew?". I was astounded to think that my blood was racing all over my body, and I had never known it.

I felt that way the first time I saw the Northern Lights. Also when I saw the Statue of David.

The internet. I am a researchy sort of person. I remember butterflying from 1 site to the next. I would favorite everything and print tons of material down. I guess I thought it would diappear. Hours were lost. Every game had to have an icon until I filled the space of the computer memory-which I didn't understand I was doing.
I can't believe its all out there still.
Also Myspace and Facebook. All the people from high school were already there. I found people from 30 years ago. It was boggling.

Isn't it great to grow old and still not lose our sense of wonder?
About when I discovered that blood circulated in the body: A little story that I am not so proud of: After the teacher told us about the blood, I not only looked at my hand, but I also came home and got my cat. I put a rubber band around its foot, intending to check it in an hour and see if it felt cold. The teacher had told us that the blood movement caused our bodies to stay warm, and that if blood were not allowed to circulate, then the part would become cold. Well, I guess being an irresponsible kid, I forgot about the cat. I mean, I forgot for something like 3 days. Then my father talked to me when I came home from school and wanted to know if I knew anything about the cat with the bad leg. I gasped, suddenly remembering what I had done. (by the way, whenever mischief happened at our home, it was usually me to blame, so no wonder he asked me about it.) He told me that I had to take the rubber band off the cat's foot. Easier said than done. That cat was not being a nice kitty, and I guess I can't blame it. I got all scratched up and was bleeding by the time I removed the band. Fortunately, no lasting harm was done to the cat, and I learned my lesson. And I also learned that the cat's foot was cold, so I guess the teacher was right.Spiritual:

I remember the moment I realized my Mother was a woman, not just my Mother. *grins*

When I realised just how incredibly expansive and complex our universe is. I really struggle to comprehend the concept of 'everything'.

Looking at a perfect spider's web with dew on it and wondering "how's that made?"
And the sunlight dancing off the water when I was 2 and thinking it was fairies, until I realized it was the sun...and thinking God made the sun and therefore the light on the water. And don't ask me how I remember things from when I was this young. My mother confirmed I was actually 22 months old when this happened. She was pregnant at the time and the location puts me firmly at 22 months.2012 Challenges

Watching a little spider attack a big spider. It gave up and wandered off, but, you know, what was it thinking? The little one was tiny (pinky nail) and the big one was like thumb size (not the nail, the whole thumb).
