Fighting in the Grocery Store!
Some people are so unbelievably stupid. While I was at the grocery store this evening, minding my own business & weighing some apples, 2 older ladies started yelling at each other. They were at least in their 60's...one had her son w/her & the other lady had her dh w/her. Anyway, the lady w/the dh had taken a jar of olives off of the shelf, opened it up & was eating the olives right out of the jar. The other lady w/her son saw what she did & admonished her about it. The other lady w/the dh became irate that someone would dare tell her what she was doing was wrong, followed the other lady around the store, yelling at her & finally cornered her in the produce section. The other lady's son started to yell back at her & told her that eating olives out of the jar at the store before paying for them was just sick & disgusting. I could not believe that the offending lady's dh didn't say a word. I kinda looked at him & he just scooted out of the womens' way. I could not believe what I was seeing/hearing - that wife of his must have had his kajones in her purse b/c he apparently wasn't wearing them today - he never once took control of his wife and allowed her to continue to act in such a disgraceful manner. I feel badly for the other lady...she had the guts to stand up & call the wrong that she saw for what it was...& she got jumped for it. Needless to say, I put the apples back & got out of their way - if they were going to start throwing fruit at each other, I didn't want to get hit.

Wow! That is disgusting that she would start doing that in the store!! Kudos to the woman who said something.
I feel bad for the hubby. Can you imagine what she is like to live with??!

Did she put the olives back, or did she put them in her cart?

I kwym....a few years back, I bought a container of frosting for a HA's birthday....wish I had checked the container before I bought it...I opened the lid & the seal was off & there was a tongue print in the frosting (probably someone's kid). Yuck....I got a refund & from then on, I lift the plastic lids on the frostings before I put them in my cart.

You cannot believe that the DH did not "take control" of his wife? SERIOUSLY???? As if she's a child, or a dog?
Aside from that.... While I agree that NOTHING is mine until it's been paid for, I know others who disagree. I know people who will give their kids a candy bar to eat while they shop, which they pay for on the way out. Though I disagree with this and have taught my children that if you've not paid for it yet it's stealing, I've yet to see a cashier or store manager have a problem with it.

When the boys were small I sometimes would buy a banana for my oldest ds and keep the receipt while he ate it. I've been one to open things in the store for my child( apple juice box's) when his sugar has gone low and you have to get it up quick. I do pay for them. I've not always had time to pay before he drank one. I didn't let them just open and eat whatever. What I dont' like to see is people eating fruit as they go through the store grapes is a perfect example they are sold by weight. I would never cause a fuss if I saw someone eating something in a store (you don't know there medical history). I like to pay before we take or eat anything. I know from personal experience that sometimes you have to act fast. TC

I will get a pop or water and drink on it during the store...I see nothing wrong with it. And BTW... hubby's shouldn't "control" their wives.

I think its a case of a few ruining it for many. I've opened a box of granola bars in the store and given one to DS to tide him over until the end of our shopping trip. I always pay for whatever I use. Some people don't. There are always people who will let their kids lick frosting and put it back on the shelf. BTW another one to check before you buy is antiperspirant. I have a friend who worked at Walmart, and she said that they would find many sticks of deodorant with the safety plastic thing removed and obvious signs that it had been used.
I think that if DH ever tried to 'control' me, he'd be faced with a wrath much worse than that lady's demonstration in the store

I was controlled by my ex (divorce granted two days ago after a year and a half battle, hurrah!) for years. NEVER again.
I have taught my daughter that we pay first then eat, on the basis that the power could go out or the store evacuated before you pay, but I try not to judge others for eating first and paying later, especially when small kids are involved. I do think what she did is just plain gross especially if she was licking her fingers and then handling other store goods (shudder).
You were right to get out of the way before they started throwing fruit or worse yet bullets (you never know in this day and age)

Me too. I don't eat it myself, but I do it on almost every single shopping trip with the kids.
Yelling at someone for doing that is just completely batsh** crazy. I'd say Old Lady #2 was equally misbehaved.
Besides, when I was pregnant with number 1, olives were my very first craving. Who knows, maybe she was pregnant? That would have been an emergency situation.

If I were acting a hot mess in a grocery store, I would hope my husband has the decency to tell me knock it off and to behave like the grown woman that I am.
There's a difference in taking control of a situation and taking control of a person. I think the original sentence was perhaps misworded.McD

Yes, Nicole, perhaps, I didn't clarify what my definition of "taking control of his wife" meant.
Also, if that were me acting in such a way, my dh would quickly put me in my place.
I would think that the woman's husband would have been so embarassed by his wife's actions that he would have said something to get her to stop.
