Attempting to start a new Q&A site for Landlords & Tenants
I am shamelessly self-promoting my attempt to start a new dedicated Q&A site on the Stack Exchange Network for Landlord and Tenant issues.
The Stack Exchange network is a site which provides Q&A format topic areas where one person asks a question and any number of people can answer. Questions and answers can also be commented on.
What makes SE unique is the rating system - well formed, on topic questions are given positive votes by the community while poorly formed questions are down-voted, and good/bad answers are also voted on. The better your questions and answers, the higher your reputation becomes, but the system takes away your own reputation when you downvote, so you have to seriously mean it when you downvote a question or answer because it costs you to do so.
So - there are a lot of topic areas on SE - and I'm active on several, and I've submitted a proposal for a new dedicated area for Landlords & Tenants, here:
Landlords and Tenants - Area 51 - Stack Exchange
This area is intended to be a place where specific questions related to issues facing both landlords and tenants can be asked - questions ranging from "What do I need to know about Lead Paint in my rental?", to "How do I get my security deposit back from my Landlord?"
In order to pass the first stage in becoming a Q&A site, my proposal requires at least 55 more "followers" (people interested in the topic) and 5 good examples of on topic and off topic questions.
As much as I love FV, FV is about frugal living, not real estate issues, and as a landlord myself, I haven't had a lot of luck finding landlord/tenant resources that didn't have a fee attached, so I thought that creating a proposal for this topic on SE would offer a much needed resource on the internet.
Anyone here who's a tenant or an aspiring or actual landlord, if you have questions you want answered or are knowledgeable on landlord tenant matters, I'd encourage you to visit my proposal, register on Stack Exchange, and follow my proposal and submit your own input - sample questions, discussion topics, comments on existing sample questions, etc.
Thank you for your time and support!
GIf you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Thanks greebo............shall watch this to see where it goes.
Read through the questions and it could be very interesting to see if different parts of the country are 'that' different for laws, etc.
This one made me do a "hmmmmmm".........
Is there anything I'm not allowed to ask a prospective tenant? Am I allowed in my state to put restrictions on children, pets, etc?
Good luck in your endeavor............

The questions seen right now are only sample questions, intended to show what would and also what would NOT be suitable questions for such a site. That kind of question you're "hmmmming" is a perfect example, IMO.

But we need more sample questions and lots of people voting on what kinds of questions they think would be good vs. bad.

And I know you want to attract the experienced but while the question gave me pause, I don't see it as so bad................(should be divided up into two questions though..........)
I think this also has the potential to 'educate' some renters on what can be done............IE: the one question about restrictions...........I can limit the number of people (in total) and had someone get a little 'disturbed' when I did this years ago..............could tell she didn't have a CLUE..........and the key here is "as long as I am consistent"......

I will follow and attempt to participate on the understanding that I'll be owed a favor of similar magnitude to be redeemed at the time and site of my choosing.

Judging by your sense of humor I'd say you'd still make a better politician than a comedian.
