Has crime gotten worse in your area...
With the economy so bad has crime gotten worse in your area. It has here. Seems like it has here. We are having a big problem in our county with prescription drug abuse and meth as well as a lot of stealing. Times are bad enough for everybody and then you have thieves stealing what you have to work so hard for. Our new house we are building was hit a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully they didn't do any damage but just stole what was left loose...electrical wire. I read on one of our local sites where someone was in the process of moving to a new place and someone actually stole their storage building from their back yard...a huge storage building.

I haven't noticed any real increase in here. I do pay more attention to it due to hubby's line of work.

Can't say as it has but my area was already not great. A neighbor across from me had all 4 tires removed from his car. Middle of the night, no one heard or saw anything. Just gone. That was about 5 years ago and stuff happens randomly but can't say as it has gotten worse. I still put Freecycle stuff on my porch and no one takes it except the person I offered it to. I had an item for sale on my porch and finally brought it in due to a no-show, no one took it. I'm amused my hose and reel has stayed in place for an entire season, but I'll be bringing it in during the winter so it doesn't "walk off."
We have druggy people all around us, maybe they go to someone else's neighborhood to steal. Hm! Maybe I'm actually safer with them next to me, ha!!!LDR

This area has its fair amount of crime. They finally caught the people stealing from the pharmacies about a year ago. The city just laid off a bunch of policemen so I will not be walking around there at night!!
It really is frustrating that crime seems to be going up especially since this area is really not that bad. Just know what areas to stay away from at certain times of the day or night. Heck, the bank down the street was robbed and the teller shot. Really makes you wonder sometimes.

Now THAT is some serious stealing!! It must have been made out of material that they could sell.
There seems to be in increase in that.........one utility co. here is having a horrible time with wire being stolen for recycle. (as are the builders)
We have the normal drug things...........pharmacies robbed (of pills only).........banks robbed for money and I think these have
increased---seems like it when you watch the news..........but even more scary right now..........we have some NUTCASE ARSONIST lose!
I pay REAL CLOSE attention to the home invasion robberies......both, address --and if they knew the people..........that is scary. Doesn't matter if you don't open your door...........they bust in.

We've had 'neighbors' inquire about our locking system on our doors. We just smile and say we have a secure home. We lock inside and outside screen doors. Plus one of the doors doesn't have an outside doorknob. The other one is locked and dead bolted at all times.
We live in an inner city neighborhood. Generally it's pretty good. But sometimes we hear shots. And sometimes we hear stories of people being broken into. And sometimes the women are raped before they take off with the loot. That one bugs me. I make sure the doors are locked when I'm home alone.
The best security I've found is to have a lot of friends coming and going all the time, at unpredictable hours. We had a spat of break ins several years ago in our neighborhood and our home was one of the few that didn't get hit. And we don't even have an alarm system. People were coming and going at all hours of the day. And DH's schedule is so irregular it would be difficult for anyone watching the place to pinpoint an ideal time to break in.2012 Challenges

We have had a lot of vandalism lately. We had a group of teenagers slashing tires. They got about 100 tires in the neighborhood. Including 3 of mine. Don't know if they have been caught. We also had a guy get out of prison and was stealing things but he tried to rob the store across the street and was caught. Other then that its been quite.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

it has here. we had a meth house busted this year. the drug situation has gotten a lot worse with several murders and a man still missing.
i used to leave my back door open at nite sometimes maybe ~10 yrs ago... i would never do such thing now. my doors are always locked now. you just never know what people will do to get their drugs.

Copper wire theft is very high here. Before DH switched jobs, someone pulled the wire from his place of work while it was still "hot". Because of all the marks around the box, the cops said they would pop by the hospitals to see if they could spot the Darwin award wannabe.
Bank robberies and store thefts are also up.

Yes but it is worse 30 min away in the area most work in. Their news daily is robbery robbery robbery and it used to be rare. We started having more robberies in our small rural community also. I was surprised when the Amish greenhouse was robbed!

I've heard that a lot of new homes get hit for the copper wiring. Also homes and buildings that are empty. I guess we are lucky it wasn't any worse.
We just had a murder here last week too. My son's coworker's dad was murdered by his own son...brother to son's coworker. From what has been said drugs are involved in this one too. Son's coworker is a decent guy and nothing like the rest of the family. He works hard. Rest are messed up on drugs.
I live in small town America where it use to be safe to leave your doors unlocked. Its a shame that it is no longer that way. Our biggest problems are drug related. The stealing is usually druggies too. It just saddens me that its gotten so bad.Wife of Danny for 28 years...the love of my life and my best friend..

Yes it has when we were robbed of some copper a few weeks ago the state trooper told us that robbery is up about 200 percent this is a very quiet semi rural community. There are some pretty affluent homes here in the 800k range and they are being broken into at an alarming rate. Trooper said he is finding more desperate people now than ever before and the police force has been cut due to budget constraints. always have my doors locked as I live back in the woods and not visible from the road

Murders and attempted murders are up, which typically means there is some "restructuring" being done in the drug trade. I doubt the economy has anything to do with our crime rate, robberies and thefts are down.
We had a murder a little too close to home last month. I kept my door locked for a few days after that one.

We are dealing with Bath Salts here or as some call it monkey dust makes people freak right out.One guy went into a school while class was in session and started screaming they have guns and they are trying to kill me .When we go any where we have to watch carefully because so many people are using this drug one guy the police found sitting on the side of the road with a shot gun say's he was going to shoot the big bugs that kept crawling on him. It is very scarey . And robbery's of banks and pharmacies are up .I do not go out after dark unless DH is with me .
DH's chemo has ended and his Radiation treatments end Mon May 14 yeah...!!
