Interesting article on Inflation
Anyone else catch this article?
How inflation is eating away at family food budgets- MSN Money
Looks like prices are going up more and more. Seems crazy. The one that blew my mind was the point on peanut butter. That is a HUGE forecasted increase! As if if hasn't gone up enough already! I hope milk doesn't keep going up...we go through so much of it. Ugh...Kace - married to Dh 12 years

I wondered when people would start stealing livestock. My daughter is a single working mom with 3 kids and money is very tight! I start every January doing the rewards program and extreme couponing thing to accumulate a stockpile of shampoo, soap, paper towels, garbage bags, feminine products, toothpaste and cleaning supplies. I give her this for Christmas in a huge trunk. It lasts all year. This way, everything she buys when she grocery shops are things that actually go in their stomachs. If I didn't supply these items, she simply couldn't buy them. There is no room for non edibles in a typical shopping trip anymore.

Interesting article. I am hoping to see a sale on PB before November. It is a staple especially for DS

And there they go again with the shrinking project. This makes me crazy.... I hate thinking you are getting the same amount until you open the packaging or go thru it so much faster.
I am also noticing the "sales" aren't as good. Nothing good at Kroger this week (except .99 per pound grapes)....Frugalista Mama to DD 12 & DS 8

Imagine, my dd is an only child and therefore she is spoiled. But she works so hard. On the subject of shrinking, my dh has been complaining about toilet paper constantly running out. I told him the rolls are shorter. He doesn't believe me because he doesn't shop.

We're in a slow motion collapse. The Obama Administration and their political appointees at the fed keep printing money to try to cover the rest of O's term and the inflation can't do anything but go up until we hit the tipping point.

I'm just going to throw this out there, Vitamins! I'm a firm believer in vitamins, especially when the food budget gets super tight. It's easy to become deficient in certain nutrients when you start cutting back on the food that usually hits the supper table. Focus on a multi vitamin and calcium with added vitamin D for everyone in your family, and if at all possible financially add some Vitamin C. Do a bit a research before you purchase, but know that you don't have to spend a small fortune to get a decent supplement.~~~

That article was kind of depressing. All the prices rising is getting old. I wonder where it will stop.

{{{hugs}}} to all my American neighbors. We in Canada have been used to high food prices for some time. And in fact, are stealing ourselves for higher prices as well. Somehow we are more used it it seems. Maybe it's being a more rural society or something. Most people seem to have access to a garden somewhere and/or fruit bushes/trees. Or we're just closer to nature and know where the good berry batches are! And the deer and duck.
But for those who are bound to the city and have no alternatives, I feel for you. {{{Hugs}}}2012 Challenges

The prices are outrageous and getting more so.
I no longer grocery shop. I simply replenish the stockpile and buy milk. I'm trying so hard to foist powdered milk off on my kids and it is NOT working. Of course, I don't like it either. Blech.
If it isn't on sale - and I mean a GOOD sale, I don't buy it. I've also become a vegetarian to cut back on food costs. It's helped a lot, although I know that decision is not for everyone.

Yep, grocery is killing us and I garden, forage, beg, borrow and....nope no stealing yet. It's almost become a game. How far cani stretch something before the kids complain.

Daisygirl: are you letting the milk sit overnight before using it? I never much liked the taste either. But left to sit overnight and mixed half and half with 2% it wasn't too bad. You can certainly use it in baking instead of the regular milk.
