The VA should cover a good portion if not all of this. FIL is a vet and all but one of his meds are totally covered and the other he pays 3.00 for a three month supply. The VA should also have info on resources if for some reason they cannot cover a good portion of it. At that income level for two people, they are probably well under the median income for most areas/states and probably qualify for many services.

Glad you're getting it sorted out forHISglory. Even in Canada we have issues with medicine being covered by provincial health care and our insurance. I'm on the newest and latest for bipolar and it's by far the best. I wouldn't go back to the last one that left me in zombieland for 10 years. BUT this new one is $130/mth. for a minimal dose. Thank goodness that's all I need! The province won't cover it. DH's insurance won't cover it. So my doctor went to the manufacturer and I have one year's supply free. But that is up for renewal next year. I don't know what we'll do then. I've been putting off talking to the doc about a number of other issues because I can't afford any more medications.

the insurances give as little detail as they can get away with in these letters hoping that you will just absorb the cost rather than get the generic they will cover or many times there is another med made by a diff manufacturer once the patent is up and the new one is much cheaper -
curious what is the med .
alot of my senior patients get similar letters and the change to another name of the same drug or a older verson or a 2 in one drugs is all they need .
for the person on simvastatin there are are homeopathics that are basically the statin drug in natural form - chinese red rice yeast ( or same words changed around in order ) is a natural statin drug that my mother uses to stay off the RX meds . she was able to bring her chol down to norm from being high enough for meds - she req the dr give her 3 months to try it naturally and she didnt need the meds once she did this .
my now 96 yo grandmother didnt take a rx drug for her cholesterol either she was on one tried the homeopathic ( with drs okay although he insisted it wouldnt work )and results for her were the same so she used it too until she was in a nursing home for other health mobility issues my mom couldnt handle - and they wouldnt let her use that she had to go on the RX*~Debbi~*
