    Has anyone seen this?

Customer sues Wal-Mart over 2 cents- MSN Money

Wal-Mart was sued (and lost) over a box of banquet chicken that rang up incorrectly (twice).

I just read that this morning...........also some of the
    comments about it.

When you figure what they could have made from the people that DID NOT NOTICE.........I say, you go girl.

Just calls to light some of their business practices.........but they aren't the only one........Rite Aid did something similar here with the 'candy tax' that our wonderful legis. enacted.........that has since been removed. And they were very condescending when you notified them about it..........

My first reaction was "that is ridiculous". However the more I thought about it I wonder how much extra $ Walmart made charging thousands of people and extra two cents.

She sued for the minimum amount allowed, which to me suggests she means that the money isn't the point.

I think it's generally good that someone's holding big box stores accountable for their pricing.

I especially dislike that when they have been shown an incorrect price they don't immediately take care of it so the next guy who doesn't notice gets charged more. grr

Exactly - if she were suing on the first offense, that would be one thing - but she's suing, if the article is accurate, when she can prove that it's a problem that's allowed to continue.

At best that's negligent. At worst, it's downright dishonest.

Not gonna lambast Wal*Mart or K-Mart in GENERAL on this - it may be a problem in just that store - one would hope, at least.

I am sorry but I do find this ridiculous. What a waste of time and resources. On one hand we may feel that we are getting the short end of the stick.

However, we are still humans and computers are not perfect. I can't think of a store I haven't been in that hasn't over charged me at a certain point. I think the cashier was gracious to give her the lower price. On the flip side, I have sometimes been charged lower than what the price was marked too.

When you think about it, the companies are the ones that are getting us by raising the prices on products or reducing the size. I understand our economy is tough, but some of the price increases are not justified.

In the end she won, but we lost. They had to pay lawyers, and no way is that going to hurt Walmart...instead cost increases will subtly happen, so us consumers will have to pay for the two cent overcharge lawsuit.

This lil publicity stunt seems to have worked in Walmarts favour - their name is now at the front of everyone's brain.

Being accidentally overcharged is a mistake.

Being overcharged again, and again, and again when the problem has been pointed out is not.

Which will probably end up costing Wal*Mart less than they bilked the customer for by repeatedly overcharging on an item where they sold hundreds or thousands of items for $0.02 too much.

    Default Anyone remember...

when..... if the "computer/scanner" rang it at the wrong price it was FREE! In essense to get us to trust the scanner?

Having worked at a grocery store at that time...... it is a simple fix.... you take the correction to the "master" and it fixes it immediately..... can not give away free stuff and at that time lots were watching :-)...

She's my new hero. I think she's awesome.

I noticed that in each of her lawsuits, she always returned to WM to check the price, sometimes multiple times. They had an opportunity to fix the problem and didn't.

I don't think so. Walmart shoppers are already apparently getting overcharged for something. Would you rather pay a clearly marked price increase due to lawsuit defense, or tolerate overcharges that we pay for without realizing? The answer seems obvious to me. We stand to lose a lot more by tolerating this kind of thing from retailers.

Overcharges, which we feel are intentional, are one of the major reasons we shop at Walmart as little as possible and watch them like hawks when we do. My daughter is a department manager for WM, and we still don't shop there. If these were honest mistakes, then why don't we ever get undercharged there?

It's easier to cheat a million people out of a dollar than one person out of a million dollars. IMO, WM has taken that saying to heart and applied it to their business practices. At least, that's the way it seems.
