I imagine we will be seeing more and more of this over the coming years. Outsourcing isn't quite as cost-effective anymore, and being able to promote Made-In-America is becoming a big thing again.

I had sworn off new cars, but I will consider buying a Ford if this pans out.
Btw, I saw the link to the original article. There's two comments on it, both basically turning their noses up at the news. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS, INTERNET! You always poop on it.
~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~

Here's another article with a bit more depth into the subject
Ford Motor Company (F) News - The New York Times
mndtrp, I read in Newsweek? about emerging unions for car manufacturers in China. The article went on to state that they are not the only manufacturers in China that are making moves to unionize. If that happens, gone will be cheap goods and hopefully we will see our factories and businesses return to our shores. Imagine that?! Unions in China!!
Nishu, We've got a Ford Focus. We wouldn't even consider purchasing a car not made in the U.S. My DH is a stickler for made in the U.S.. But Ford wins MAJOR loyalty points from me. Thinking Fords are going to have a place in our driveway from this moment forward.~~~

i predicted this would happen years ago. Reason: I know lots of people who worked in sweat shops here in the USA. So, when the jobs left to go to China, etc. they talked about the few benefits they got in the USA compared to China. I knew then that soon, the people in China and other countries will figure out that they can ask for more until there is a breaking point. Also, the price of petroleum is too much to be shipping stuff across the water. I told my family several times that the jobs will come back. BUT......by then, we may be so desperate for jobs that we may not see those great paying jobs "right away". The solution to our problem is to get Americans back to work!!! I am glad FORD is doing this.
Step 1 $207/1500
Step 2 Student loan $160.00 monthly
Schewels paid
Step 3 $252/$15000
Step 4
Step 5 1 child in college graduates 12/12
2 child $50.00
Step 6 $70,761/$93,000
Step 7 Build wealth & give.

A couple of things...
The union had some say so in getting jobs back here in during recent contract negotiations. Note I did not give them full credit.
I have seen first hand some of the poor quality that comes out of China and Mexico so I believe it has something to do with Ford's decision.
Having said that, I still think Ford's decision comes down to one thing... Profits.Russ

Sinopa,
One of the things that blows my mind about the whole thing is the Chinese factories (Chinese owned) are pulling up stakes and moving to India. Seems it's much cheaper in India to run a factory because they can employ/enslave young children. Imagine, A country being raked over hot coals over human rights is moving their businesses to a country where the people can be treated worse and not an eye is blinked! Some of the "employees" (I use that word VERY loosely) are just babes. Watched a documentary on (specifically, but not limited to) fireworks factories in India. Showed the children with hands blown off, disfigured, covered head to toe in black powder sitting in the dirt making fireworks. The product still says made in China on the box because of some trades loophole. They also had these children rolling these skinny cigarettes that they sell out here at the corner smoke shop. The kids were developing skin Cancer on their hands. They were absolutely filthy, dressed in rags, bone thin, cheeks hollowed. And this entire documentary was filmed openly. Seems the practice of buying and selling human beings to be enslaved is just another day in India.
Us buying cheap products is an ugly business of slavery of children and the purchased. We need to wake up in America. If we can't afford to buy products made by Americans then maybe we can't afford it in the first place. It pricks my conscious to buy something made outside of America. Ignoring the horror of it, the greed of it is what made it spiral out of control in the first place. I just keep thinking, this can't be who we are as a nation. A people who collectively only care about our bottom line. Then I realize that that is exactly who we are, we are reaping the harvest of demanding cheap products off the backs, blood and lives of others by having our factory work outsourced.

If it wasn't for the desire for cheaply made goods, those other countries likely wouldn't have developed nearly as quickly as they have. Silver lining!
