this year we are doing football party type food. no one in our house likes turkey and for the last 4 years I have tried to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, blah, blah, blah to please my dad. but I have finally come to my senses and realized there is no way I can please him and to be honest it was miserable. so this year we are eating what WE want. woohoo!!
there will be:
chicken wings
meatballs
sliders
chips
dip
pizza bread (this is a new one my son found, must try it out 1st)
potato skins
chili
veggie tray
fruit salad
whatever else the kids want
banana pudding
cake or brownies
can't wait for my peaceful, relaxing Thanksgiving

Slight change to the menu... damn you Guy Fieri! OldMan saw a spot on how to brine a turkey... yes, he thought that was something NEW

So... the dinner will now be...
12 pound turkey (that I now have to let swim in a brine)
stuffing
gravy
veggies
my sweet potatoes (since I have to make his damn turkey, I want my sweet potatoes)
pecan pie
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

My menu:
Brined and herb roasted turkey breast with gravy
Artisan bread dressing with sausage and apricot
Cheesy harvest potatoes (which many call funeral potatoes though mine do not have anything crunchy on the top)
Oven roasted fresh brussell sprouts with bacon
Dessert is always the toughest. It is just my son and I for dinner and this strange kid has never liked cake or pie. It can be a bummer for me. I think I will make him brownies and I might make a mini pumpkin cheesecake for me.Right is right even if no one else is doing it. Wrong is wrong even if everyone else is doing it.

DH has to work that night and DD will most likely be with her fiance's family for dinner, so I'm going to make steamed crab legs seasoned with Old Bay and some boiled shrimp w/mini corn on the cob and red potatoes boiled with it.
Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.
