Finally said good-bye...
... to the junker cars I've been nagging to get rid of for four years. What a relief!
It was hard to let the 1986 GMC Safari go, I'll admit. We bought it in 1989 and drove it till about two years ago when it developed bad brakes, a broken AC, three busted door latches, and a dangerous leaking of fumes into the inside. It was sure a great car for us over all those years, very reliable, no rust which is saying a lot in Minnesota. But the time had come. It didn't make economic sense to fix it, and besides, we didn't need it.
The rust-bucket 1994 POC Chevy Blazer was another story. That never was that great a car. It had most of the same problems as the van, plus more. It also reached a point of no return, and then we bought the Avalanche four years ago to replace it. Which, in fact, is a GREAT car.
So finally, my husband was satisfied there actually wasn't much value in them and let them go. The salvage yard gave us a nice sum of money for each, enough to pay for a good chunk of the deck we want to build next year. YEA! We had a nearly new hitch receiver on the van that we couldn't get off, so they were even nice enough to cut that off and drive back out here to bring it to us, free of charge, which we appreciated. So we should be able to sell that for a few dollars more.
Maybe next year, we can make ourselves part with our beloved motor home, which we really don't want to sell but which no longer makes financial sense, either. If only it wasn't so darn comfy to travel and camp with.
It's nice to be a two-car family again, with our Astro and Avalanche tucked in, cozy in the garage. Less outdoor clutter is nice, and the space the van was taking up is now free for the garden expansion we're hoping to get done next spring.
Anyone else recently parted with something you knew had to go, but you still didn't want to get rid of?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just went through a ton of stuff that was gifted to me for Crafting for Missions with a friend. She ended up taking some and I ended up tossing a lot of it because it really wasn't anything we could use. Some of it will be given away on Full Circles, an online recycling group. Still, it's nice to have my basement back again!
