Default They say that sport is good for you...

..but I feel like I am broken in a million pieces.

Yesterday evening for the first time in 35 years I played badminton again at a nearby club.
Badminton is the only sport I was ever good at and really liked and thought with almost all of the kids out of the house, it is now a good time to start again.

Even typing this is really hurting my right hand/wrist/arm - heck all of my body is hurting while I write this.

I did have a great time though and next week I will be looking at another club which is a little nearer but I think I will be joining one of the two.
It was nice to play again.

Looks like you had a good time. Also looks like you did Too Much Too Soon as we say in my barefoot running circle. Wait til tomorrow, your million pieces should feel like one big lump of hurt, then things will start to get better.

Badminton is so fun!! Good for you...and hopefully you will fee much better soon.

Just be careful because it almost got me killed once. But that was because my best friend and I were sophomores in high school and beat out the senior girls for the win in a gym class tourney. Boy were they ticked!!! LOL

I used to be active and play sports with friends but not often. Instead...I've cheated and taken to the Wii. I play games on it and it gets me somewhat physical and helps me stretch out joints. The way I figure it - I'm not playing sports, at least I'm moving. (I do still go to the gym on occasion but its not like playing an actual sport)

When DH & I play on the Wii - we play against each other - boxing makes me extra hyper and I tend to start flailing vs doing the calculated movement. I sure do feel it the following days. Our friends just showed us another game - its dancing where you mimic the silhouette's dancing to popular music. THAT makes you MOVE!

Badminton is so much fun and I know exactly how you feel! My arm hurts so bad when it's been awhile. That's the only sport that I can get my kids interested in so we do it quite often except for summertime. In MS the humidity and heat would kill you so we tend to wait for fall. I have to go buy another one this year, we played it so much last time that our nets finally broke! You may need to put a heating pad or a rice sock on your arm or what ever part hurts the most!

Do they have a heating pad for my entire body? LOL

Seriously it's my right forearm that really hurts.
My kids have been laughing at me the entire day.

That "whole body hurt" is just your muscles' way of reminding you that they are there and like to get used once in a while. After a long hard bike ride in the hills, I sometimes have a hard time climbing stairs the next day. It's one of the "good" kinds of hurt, lets you know you're still alive and kickin'.

    My opinion anyway.

Dutchie - are you able to put some Icy Hot muscle cooling gel on it or an ice pack/heat pack? Try stretching it out throughout the day. Just a few quick stretches to keep things moving - don't do it til you cry though *hugs*

I used to love badminton! Maybe now that my ankle is healed post surgery, we can get a net for the yard next summer.

Anyway, my go to for muscle pain is the biofreeze roll on. You can get it in some pharmacies and from physical therapists, but wal-mart sells a 'generic' version - I think called 'freeze-it' or something similar. It is around ten dollars, but so worth it. I use it for headaches too - swipe some on your forehead and the back of your neck, and that will either get rid of the headache, or minimize the pain enough while you wait for the ibuprofen to kick in.

Good for you Dutchie!! Your body is just letting you know that you haven't used those muscles in a while.....it will be kinder to you in a couple of days.

I'm actually fine so long as I don't move LOL!

When I start to get up from sitting down then I have to get used to it again but actually as long as I move and don't move my arm in a certain way I'm OK. I have used some gel on my arm and it has helped a bit. Thanks!

But what 'low-1' said is true, I know where the pain is coming from, it's a sign that I have used muscles (that I didn't know I had) and it will go away. It's good for me and I will be going back next week to do it all again.
