We had one dinner rule in our family. Never complain about any meal you didn't have to make yourself. So I say do whatever you want in your cooking, no explanation necessary.

We use ground turkey a lot too. If I'm making meatloaf I mix it half and half but otherwise I use it straight.

I use ground turkey as well. My fiancee is trying to lose weight, so it helps. He and I tend to prefer a heavy hand with seasoning, so he usually can't tell.
I really don't enjoy ground meats at all, but do make meatloaf for him once in a while, since he loves it. I wouldn't really consider it 'tricking' them - I mean really, do you get into an in depth discussion of each ingredient in the meal at dinner anyway? I can say I would be pretty ticked if someone tried to switch meat with tvp on me, but I'm allergic to soy, and would know pretty much instantly.

I think the word "tricked" is a difficult one. Personally I would be VERY unhappy if someone did it to me, thus I don't do it to someone else. But every family is different and it doesn't sound as if you were going against any core values on that one. (i.e. slipping meat into a vegetarian's meal, slipping pork into a Muslim's meal, using bad meat even though you thought it would be fine...)
Trust yourself, and remember that opinions are like noses, we all have one.
I figure if you are willing to put it out here on the forum you are willing to listen to mine. But just in case, I do tend to write things such as "in my opinion...for what its worth....my two cents..." etc in hopes of softening a statement that might come across as too harsh.
So in my opinion *grin* I would not like to be tricked nor would I trick someone else even to save money. I would simply let them know, "hey trying something different here, lemme' know if you like it."LDR
