Default Tricked my family and they never knew.

Yep! I tricked them. I used half hamburger and half ground turkey in a crockpot dish one night this week and they never knew. They loved it in fact. LOL What they don't know won't hurt them...wink.

I use ground turkey a lot , we love the taste. It is so healthy I can get it straight from the farmer at my co op no preservatives, or additives .

Good job. I love it in my meat sauce. I also make tacos, enchiladas etc with it.

Don't you love when you can be sneaky and they don't realize it!

A friend started putting TVP in her spaghetti instead of hamburger. Her husband didn't find out for like a year. He wasn't happy when he found out that she had been tricking him, but he was fine with it when she told him how much cheaper it was than hamburger.

I really dislike the idea of *tricking* your family into eating something....

    Just me I suppose.....

I try new stuff all the time without mentioning it. Doesn't mean I'm trying to trick them, or sneak it past them. Personally, we like ground turkey better than ground beef.

Darlene I will post the recipe in the recipe's section.

Stinkbug I guess I don't hardly know what to say to you. I'm shocked. I wasn't expecting anyone to be upset with me over my wording. I'm truly sorry if my wording offended you or anyone else. It was not my intention to upset anyone. If you knew me and my family you would understand this. We have a good re pore. We pull tricks on each other. We tease each other. My son who is 23 just came up to me a minute ago acting like a zombie, gets the top of my head and says "brains...umm no brains..question mark here? My daughter 25 and I have a silly little stuffed animal that looks like a weasel. We hide it in unsuspecting places so as to startle each other. The word trick is just a part of our vocabulary. I am very very close with my family. I've been with my husband for 28 1/2 years and we dated for 3. I've been with him since I was 14 years old. I don't know why I'm saying all this other than I don't want anyone to think bad of me...even total strangers on a message board.

I never felt like you were tricking them to be mean.

I am not so for tricking either, but my husband is a major brand snob. So, sometimes, he gets "tricked". TVP instead of hamburger in a few things (and because I like it better) and bulk chocolate milk mix in his Nesquick container because it is cheaper and he doesn't know the difference. If he knew it was bulk chocolate milk mix, then he would balk at it and say that it tasted funny. If he drinks it for a while and it somehow comes out that I have been substituting, then he is fine with it. He isn't totally happy with it, but he is fine with it (okokok, sort of fine with it).

Not all ground turkey is healthier than ground beef. Make sure the "trick" is a positive one. I know I would not be happy at all if someone told me I was eating X when I was really eating Y. I've heard a lot of crazy MIL stories start out this way.

Raising hand! I fully admit to tricking my 3 guys into eating lots of stuff. I have a picky dh and 1 picky son. They all swear they hate ground turkey. When it is on sale and we are low on beef I mix the two and keep my mouth shut tight as they eat it right up.

I also add pureed veggies to foods after reading the "sneaky chef". I'm the one expected to make the grocery $ stretch regardless of rising prices and make the meals tasty and healthy. If I only made what everyone wanted 100% I better double my grocery budget instead of being creative.

I just made a large pot of chili today that included a can of pumpkin in place of part of the tomatoes. It was wonderful. My family expects me to be creative and to change things up. It's who I am! LOL

I don't ever start out with anything that they don't like or really don't want but I do add additional ingredients and try new things. Most of the time I just serve it and go, it doesn't even occur to me that they aren't aware of the ingredients. The are NEVER aware of what's in a meal! LOL

I puree squash and use it in chili.
