Default Would you pay $140 for this?

Just want to know if you think it's a good deal or not. Keep in mind that some of these items would be a help during the Thanksgiving meal(s).

2 large turkeys (10-14 pounds each)
    5 lbs. split chicken breasts
    3 lbs. meat loaf patties
    2 lbs. ground beef
    3 lbs. breaded chicken tenders
    2 lbs. ground chicken
    24 oz. chicken breakfast sausage
    4 lbs. waffle fries
    6 lbs. frozen green beans
    6 lbs. frozen corn
2 lbs. frozen field peas with snaps
    6 lbs. frozen carrots
4 lbs. frozen chunk sweet potatoes
    2 lbs. fresh frozen cranberries
2 lbs. long grain brown rice
    2 boxes stuffing mix
    4 pkg. cornbread dressing
4 boxes butter herb mashed potatoes

Based on the prices in my area, without coupons.

    2 large turkeys (10-14 pounds each) - 24 lbs 8 $0.69/lb = $16.56
    5 lbs. split chicken breasts 5 lbs * $1.99/lb = $9.95
    3 lbs. meat loaf patties 3 lbs * $2.50/lb = $7.50
    2 lbs. ground beef 2 lbs * $2.50/lb = $5.00
    3 lbs. breaded chicken tenders 3 lbs * $2.25/lb = $6.75
    2 lbs. ground chicken 2 lbs * $1.99/lb = $3.98
24 oz. chicken breakfast sausage 24 oz package = $6.00
    4 lbs. waffle fries $5.50
    6 lbs. frozen green beans 6 lbs * $1.50/lb = $9.00
    6 lbs. frozen corn 6 lbs * $1.50/lb = $9.00
    2 lbs. frozen field peas with snaps 2 lbs * $1.50/lb = $3.00
    6 lbs. frozen carrots 6 lbs * $1.50/lb = $9.00
    4 lbs. frozen chunk sweet potatoes 4 lbs * $1.50/lb = $6.00
    2 lbs. fresh frozen cranberries 2 lbs * $2.00/lb = $4.00
    2 lbs. long grain brown rice 2lbs * $1.50/lb = $3.00
    2 boxes stuffing mix $2.00
    4 pkg. cornbread dressing $6.00
4 boxes butter herb mashed potatoes $4.00
    2 stroganoff skillet meals $2.00
4 pkg. brown gravy mix $3.00
2 dozen frozen southern biscuits $3.50
    2 pkg. pancake mix $3.00
    4 dessert items $8.00

Unless I made an error in my math somewhere (which is quite possible), This would cost me right at $135.00 before coupons. However, I would use coupons on basically everything with the exception of the fresh meat. Realistically taking the price down to at least $100.00. Also, there are a couple of items listed I would not buy if they were not part of the package deal.

For me, it would not be a good deal. But, it is all based on the prices in your area, coupon usage and if you are going to actually use all of the items listed.

Also, you may want to account for convenience, and not just bottom line price. There is something to be said for having it all bought at one time in one place.

I'm assuming that you probably couldn't use coupons with a "pkge deal". So, with my own estimation, and using reular store brand prices, I came up with about $120. Remember too, that with just a $20 price difference, and as already mentioned, this could easily turn into a great deal for your area. So, provided that the quality is there and you will use everything, and can walk in and out of the store in just minutes, I'd go for it! Time can count for alot. If you're working outside your home, juggling kid's/hubby's time with your own, or maybe even both, I'm sure you would agree?

Let us know what you decide!

I estimate the cost of that package, bought separately, at about $140. So, no great deal, but no rip-off either. The advantage would be you aren't walking around for an hour loading up your cart.

It sounds about right to me and the convenience of a package deal sounds good!

Depends. Will you use it all, or would you choose to buy all these things if you were shopping on your own? For me, much of it I wouldn't even want, so it would be worth about $70 for me.

frozen veggies a save alot is a dollar to 1.50 a bag here, I buy a lot of canned veggies here.
So I think you can do better, but if transportation is a problem then it is alright. I counted about 16 meals. Good luck

I counted about 22 meals just based on the meat for the hubby and I, so for us it would be almost a whole month of meals for us, not including leftovers, and would be an excellent deal. We spend $250 on less than that here for the month, to give an idea of our costs, we are located slightly south of Seattle.

I don't think it would be for us because we don't use a lot of those items... If you do however it seems like a lot for $140.

I'm fairly certain that I'm going to go for it. Prices must be higher where I live than some of you because some of the prices you listed were a lot less than what I would pay here. For example, those turkeys would cost me about $15 each here. And there's not anything there that we just would not use. It would all get used up over a bit of time. The only thing that might be a challenge for me is the whole cranberries but I figure with Thanksgiving right around the corner, I can figure something out to do with them.

I usually see pretty good prices on Turkey for Thanksgiving... I pick up a few for the freezer.

You could make homemade cranberry sauce

Store frozen turkeys are cheaper, but I pay about $15 for fresh local ones in that size range.

Freeze the cranberries and they will last forever. It is easy to make your own jellied sauce with them, plus they can be chopped up in a food processor and used in muffins and quick breads. You could also dry them like any other fruit.

I think it sounds like a fairly good deal. Even at $.89/lb, the turkeys would cost about $12-$13 each. And if you'll use everything then I'd say go for it!
