Well here's another update.. Last night my 2 older son's and I went out into the garage to get the last remaining filled 5-gallon gas can to top off the generator and thank goodness I went with them because my Huge Freezer was not running?? it turned out that my middle son didn't make sure that the plug was in the extention cord all the way so there for it was not plugged in for over 24hrs.. I did not look inside yet because I wanted the freezer to have overnight to get it back to the freezing point..I'm not to worried because it's PACKED FULL... I also found out that my downstairs fridge/freezer was also without power..I was really upset with myself that I didn't check it earlier...I also have that freezer packed but not a whole lot in the fridge..this is where I store my extra gallon's of milk and other surplus food.. I was sure that the fridge shorted out because we had power at half the strength that flickered several several times before we lost power all together.. I think it's called brown out? anyway it turned out to be the extention cord went bad..so we managed to find another one and everything in the fridge is okay Whew! My dh came home from work because they have no power..I'm thankful for that! Dh unplugged our big freezer (just for a little while) to rewire the water pump (woke me up to tell me this) so I could do the dishes and take a shower however, he couldn't hook up the water heater so no Hot Water without it being a huge pain in the rear..so he and my oldest son (I'm still in bed) decided to refill the empty 2-liter bottles that we used for the toilet..I guess dh nor older son remembered that I have at least (40) 2-liter bottles of water stored in our mudroom for just this reason. I know they ment well though..I found out that our power is suppose to be restored Weds night @ 11:00pm....it was suppose to be restored tomorrow but they changed it..HUGS..

Brenda, if all else fails, you can put foods into a cardboard box, wrap it around in plastic, and then pile snow on top of it outside, and it will keep just fine.
Keep an eye on the freezer if you are getting brown-out. People sometimes pile quilts onto a freezer during brown-out or black-out, but the freezer has coils in various places in the walls, and if these are covered, it effects the inner temperature gauges, and that can damage the freezer when the power comes back on.

Another update: We are still without power and may not get it on until tomorrow? I cleaned the bathroom sink & brought in more 2-liter bottles of water so we can flush..wiped down the microwave & fridge..Went on Amazon.com (my unemployment was credited to my account today) to research the Coleman lantern's and purchased 3 personal size & 1 Family size lantern plus a Energizer Trail Finder 7 LED Head Light...My dh agreed that it was a good idea to have them for the future power outages..My dh is going to build a rack on the basement wall to hang them on..so we will alway's know where they are and easy access..I can cross that of my list of things to buy..I did add a few other item's to my order that I needed..a Bread knife and a Turkey Baster w/injection needle..I really needed both of these item's..I made more Ice Tea (someone put the empty container back in the fridge) using my Berkey...I mostly just serched the Internet to waste time..Dinner consist of hot dogs cooked in my stove/oven frying pan, canned bake beans in another stove/oven pot and foil/tent wrapped saur crout. and already cooked chicken nuggets (YUCK...my brother buy's this crap) in foil/tent all heated/cooked on the woodstove...I was pretty impressed with serving a hot meal and not buy takeout food..although it's not my kinda meal we all ate it...It was killing me today not being to wash my laundry and hang it on the line..it was in the 50's today perfect drying weather..Oh well I will do it tomorrow if we have power..I have alot of housework to do!I'm NOT looking forward to it all...But, it could be so much worse for us...
