    Default Spirit week?

Do your kids participate in spirit week? This week my oldest son has a new theme each day. Since he's in leadership (student council), and they created the spirit days, we're having fun coming up with things for him to wear.

Today was just Halloween costumes. I can't remember all the different themes, but tomorrow is past, present, future. He'll be dressed as a greaser. I went and bought a denim jacket at the thrift store and cut off the sleeves. He'll just wear a white t shirt (roll up short sleeves), and roll his pant legs and I'll grease his hair.

One day is prom day. I was lucky and found a tuxedo vest and bow tie at the thrift store. I'll have him wear a black t shirt underneath the vest for a casual prom look. Not sure on pants yet. He has dress pants or maybe just jeans.

Another day is hippie day. I found him a tie dye t shirt and this rainbow striped satin scarf he can use as a headband that hangs a little.

    Good times.

We have them pretty regularly at the middle school I work at. Its a big hit. Creates quite the distraction but cute to see.

We also have "Hat Day" fund raisers. If you bring $1.00 for the cause, you get your hand stamped at the door and can wear a hat all day. (our district has a "no hat" policy) Its very popular in the beginning of the school year but towards the end it fizzles out.

For spirit week last week we had pajama day (no slippers and must still obey dress code), 80's day, favorite sports team day, and I forget the others.

2012 Grocery Budget Reduction Challenge- $100 a month. (down from $150) Hm, might be too low.
Electric Usage Challenge (doing well, under $70 most months)

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

DS's school does it during the week of their homecoming game. Their days are:

Camouflage Day - anything camouflage goes
Pajama Day - Being that it is a Catholic HS they do set a dress code for this one, nothing too short, sexy or see through. DS wore plaid flannel jammie pants and a t-shirt with Papa Smurf that says "Call Me Big Papa". It fits him in an funny sort of way since he is the biggest kid at school with the most bashful, quiet personality.
Character Day - dress as any character; they had lots of Mario's, Angry Birds and Dalmatians this year
Spirit Day - wear school spirit clothes. DS and the other football players had to wear their game day jerseys (polo style shirt with school logo and football embroidered on the left breast)
Field Day - Each student in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade is given a Field Day t-shirt their class officers designed over the summer. Each grade is a different color and design. Then the students spend the entire school day in various competitions between the grades, like tug-of-war, eating contest, chess competition, Jeopardy-style competition, foot race, flag football, etc...each competition earns points and at the end of the day the grade with the highest score wins.

Our middle school and elementary school each have their own special days that week as well. Hat, Day, Funky Sock Day, etc...But, they do not do a "Field Day". That is a treat only reserved for the high schoolers.
