    Default Journalism today.

This was on our local news site "he was 19 or 20. According to his facebook page, etc. " Excuse me, has journalist gotten so dang lazy to make an effort to get all the facts from the police or family members, like they did in the good old says.

Worker dies in truck accident at Paul Mueller Company - ky3.com

This young man was a friend of my son, and he was very bothered by the fact they pretty much were just playing a guessing game on his info. We found it disrespectful to Cole and to his family. A family that just lost the father last year.

Get the facts first, like ask the police what age was on his license.

I messaged the station and expressed mine and my sons disgust at the lack of respect they showed. My hope is they will take that part off.

    Vent done!

I would be upset too. But the fact is they probably added it last minute and wrote it within 10 minutes. There probably wasn't time to ask someone. Worse yet is that tv broadcast news is often written and based on the print source, so if it makes the tv news which is also written in about ten minutes, it could have the same error. There's no excuse for their insensitivity, but they often have to make a call to either not include it (it's competing for space and time with other news) or to get it done and out there the best they can at the time. I wouldn't have let it leave my hands with citing a guess based on Facebook (so popular for news to do these days), but not everyone has sound judgement.

Hopefully, they'll update it. It's the right thing to do.

I'm sorry for your son's loss. I can imagine how upsetting this was for him. It IS disrespectful.

Thank you! Sorry it's just been a bad couple weeks. My best friends mom had a stroke, Tuesday 2 good friends of mine lost their mom and then this.

I don't watch my local news usually, but I do check out my Cali news everyday, and have never seen them refer to a facebook page, unless it was how someone was found. It usually says polices said, family member said, etc..

Hearing the bother in my sons voice (things usually don't bother him) just made it worse for me. This is the second death of someone from his grad class in 3 months and both boys fathers passed last year.

Thank you for letting me vent!

It annoys me as well when writers dig into facebook pages to get information.

About a year ago, one of your Navy hospital doctors was killed in a car accident. They were driving from Washington to the east coast before they moved to Japan. The wife was driving, they got probably less than three hours away, and she fell asleep at the wheel. The local paper got onto her facebook page and quoted something that she had written on her wall. It wasn't unflattering, but a lot of us found it to be disrespectful and unprofessional.

I'm very sorry to hear about your losses.

That would have upset me as well!!!

I really can't stand to read the news sometimes. Our local paper, which I read online, is terrible, the people here in town will add comments correcting them, both spelling, grammar, and flat out facts that were incorrect. The comments are more enjoyable than the actual article!

One time CNN's splash page was a screen shot of the TV at the time, with a headline that did NOT go with the picture because the "headline" was actually one of those scroll-by-tickers that runs across the bottom! I wish I had saved that picture, but for what, to irritate me further in life?

So picture a picture of a bomb-exploding-mushroom or something and then at the bottom of the picture it says "Paris Hilton's dog gets excited..." Totally random stupid bottom ticker.

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

I don't find that facebook or any other social sites is a good resource for facts. I know people that put a different place as their location, a different year for their age, and statuses aren't always true.

Wheres Joe Friday when we need him "Just the FACTS ma'am"

A couple of years ago, the state of Nebraska tracked me down through my facebook and that bothered me (immediately changed everything to private). I got a private message saying if your the -my name- we have been looking for, please contact me at. It said nothing of why they were contacting me.

My hubby and daughter told me to call, so I did. It was actually about a 19 yr old unpaid child support case. She said she tried every other way to locate me for a couple years and heard someone in her office talking about finding someone through facebook, so she gave it a try. So, after 19 yrs of getting nothing, I get a whole $45 a month.
