    Default It's Official!

We have adjusted to the seasons cooler temperatures. We do not have the heat on, but with the sun streaming through the window it brought the indoor temperature to a balmy 65' We feel like we are in a sauna in here. Had to turn on the fan and DS2 is in a T-Shirt and shorts. Whew, it's hot!

What amazes me is just how much money we wasted over the years in heating oil when all it takes is a few weeks to adjust. Honestly feel kind of daft wasting all that money.

The only reason I "adjusted" was my year of equal payment plan was coming to an end. So have had the heat off except for the snow storm to be sure I wasn't slapped with an additional amount I would have to pay the utility company. Luckily it worked and I only owe $21 difference for the total year!!!!!

But I am not adjusted at all with the heat off. It is usually around 64 degrees inside and I have on thermal underwear a top, pants and fleece vest. Still get cold so I sit with a blanket around myself. Luckily the cat uses me as a heating pad.

I'm working on adjusting here - have the house temp set at 65 during the day and 62 at night. It's pretty hard for me - I'm on a medication to regulate my heartbeat, and it lowers my blood pressure. Unfortunately, I already have low blood pressure, so when that's added to the medication, I get cold very very easily.

Right now the fever isn't probably helping either. I am NOT getting sick...I have to get a flu shot on Tuesday.

Aww, Hugs Kim & Janal. For some it's really tough to adjust, and for some it's just not healthy. There are lots of ways to cut back on the outgoing cash in your homes. Maybe keeping your thermostat so low is not right for you?

    You too Nana

When we used propane for our heat source, the temp was supposed to stay at 68. Hubby would sneak it up a few degrees and when I figured it out, I would put it back at 68. I tried it a bit lower during the day when he was at work, but just could not deal with it lower.
Now we have the outside wood boiler and the house is set at 75 during the winter months. He's happy and I'm happy. He has to plow snow in the winter, and when he gets home, he wants to be warm.
I'd rather deal with a tighter food budget than be cold.

Seriously, there are lots of ways to cut back, and every family has different needs. No wimps in my way of thinking for those who want or need higher temperatures. We've just been able to adapt in this household. I think we all (those on the FV) do very well living frugally and there should never be a thought process that says I'm so much more frugal than so and so because I keep my thermostat at this temperature or fill in the blank. To adopt that kind of attitude is, well, it's just rude. I'm positive that there are those on the FV who do things to lower their cost of living that I wouldn't even dream of.

    (( hugs ))

Heating with wood is about 1/3 the cost of what propane would cost us now.
So we get to be both frugal and warm also.
If we were still heating with propane, I am guessing temp would have to be set at 60.
Yes we are making a payment for that furnace every month, but it is so worth it About one more year for truck payments, then I go after the furnace balance.

I remember your story Lady, you do an awesome job with the hand you've been dealt, and I know you do things I wouldn't dream of. And some things you do I want to learn to do to.

This winter we will be keeping the temp. between 68 and 70. Grandma freezes. We will be heating some with wood. I am glad you all can do it. I CAN'T! wish we could. Congrats!
