Stupid purchasing decisions
What are some things that you look back on and really regret buying? Its been over a year and I still kick myself for this purchase. We were at a high end children's store when I saw a Beaba baby food freezer storage tray that went with the Beaba babycook that I had bought( which I love and don't regret in the slightest bit, it makes making baby food so easy!). Well i bought the cool green Beaba storage container to go with my cool Beaba babycook. Then I got home and realized I essentially paid $20 for an ice cube tray with a lid
Stupid!
What are some stupid purchases that you have made?Grace, wife to Bill

Cars.
Brand new off-the-lot Honda Civic immediately after I bought my new house. I went from no-debt to a mortgage and huge car payment within 6 months. Few years later decided I wanted something bigger. Brand new Honda CRV, turned in the Civic. Few years later decided OMG I can't handle the payment, turned it in for a loss with full intention that I was on-board to get out of debt. Drove a crappy beater and preached to everyone to sell their car and buy a beater.
Two months ago, just bought Used Toyota van after I promised myself I would not have a car payment again, and for a vehicle that is older than the brand new Honda CRV had I held onto it. Stupid.
I don't understand why I do things I do, but I do understand that I have a pattern. My mom likes to say, "oh you got that from your dad, he bought cars every two years when you kids were growing up." I disagree, I may have learned bad behavior but its not a gene that is something built-in to my system. Its just stupid behavior.LDR

A Kirby Diamond Elite vacuum cleaner from one of the door to door salesman. I thought it was going to help revive the carpets and make things so much easier.......and six months after we got it we wound up having to remove the carpeting from the entire house due to allergies. Doh!

'98 Chevy Malibu new. Talk about losing value the minute you drive it off the lot! Car was so-so, but we lost our shirts upon resale. That was the last new car we ever bought.

We regret the living room addition for a lot of reasons. First, the roof has leaked since Day One eight years ago and no one can seem to fix it. We've done everything we can think of to fix it, and so have several contractors who have tried. No one can find the source of the leak.
The space doesn't work like we thought it would.
I don't even want to talk about the debt incurred.
I could go on, but it's too depressing.
What really sucks is, after it was done, (it's still not really done) we realized we could have avoided it all by moving the fireplace and replacing the two large front windows with a patio door for tens of thousands less which would have resulted in a more efficient space that would have worked better than what we have now.
Back then, we were in the mode that if our stuff didn't fit in the house, we needed a bigger house. We've since wised up and realized if our stuff doesn't fit in the house, we need less stuff.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

my bright idea that i could make money selling floral wreaths, actually all things floral. i paid a small fortune for my stuff from the craft stores. i did sell a lot of my stuff, but in the end the profit was so minimal i was just making some back on what i had put out $$. i still have a cellar full of stuff. so every time i go down there i still feel failure. my biggest mistake ever.

My biggest regret would be the bedding set I bought for my daughters nursery. I justified it at the time because I bought cheap furniture and I thought the set pulled the entire room togeather. In the end we paid $250 for the set. My daughter is now 2 and has never used the comforter or the bumper. The only peice that we have used is the plain colored sheet. It looked great in the pictures but was definatly not worth the $250.

My biggest regret is buying this house. It's big and old, costs a lot to run and keep up, and the taxes are outrageous in this part of town. It's also cold and ugly inside because it was a fixer upper that DH ran out of steam fixing up. So yes, that would be my major regret.
