Default Anyone know how much a cat scan is?

I am trying to plan out how to pay the med bills we will be getting. We have been a bit beset with mishaps here. DS broke his finger and a bone in his hand. 1 urgent care visit with x rays last week. A specialist visit today with more x rays. I'm praying he doesn't need surgery!

I can guestimate what our costs will be for ds going by the costs for the other bones he broke over the summer. I'm guesstimating $1000.

DH got a severe concussion over the weekend. He kept saying he was ok but I called urgent care later. They said get to the ER pronto. He was not remembering things at all and was vomiting. He couldn't remember a conversation 5 min before or 2 hours before.

Our ins company gives us a $500 copay for ER if it is not deemed an emergency. $100 if it is. I'm sure we will get the $100 since we were told to get there asap. However it could be the $500. What I dont know however is how much a cat scan costs. We will have to pay 30% of that. Any idea HOW MUCH IT COSTS?

They kept dh for hours for observation and took him off work for several days. I am so glad he is ok and enjoyed the few days with him honestly. However now I get to juggle more Dr bills with short pay. I'm really trying get a grasp on what to expect. I know between dh and ds it will be more than I have in the med account and I will tap the ef. The clinic is notorious for not doing payment plans and sending anything over 30 days in so we get the $ at all costs. We are also trying to prep for a possible strike. UGH

I tell you this normally healthy family has had a bad 2011 for medical. We have paid more this year than in the last 8 all totaled. So any idea on the approx cost for the cat scan? I figure prepared is better than blindsided when the bill shows up.

I have had 11 CT scans over the past year and half. I looked over what my insurance has been charged for each. Ten of mine were abominable and pelvic scans with IV contrast and I had to drink the barium sulfate. Those were $4370, done through and at Baptist Hospital. Each if those was done when I was inpatient or as an outpatient, none as an emergency.

One was done on my head, with IV contrast, at an imaging facility, non-emergency, and the charge was $1140.

The eligible charges (what insurance actually paid) was $750 on each. I did not have to pay a co-pay on any of them.

    Hope this helps a little.

You're welcome. I joke and tell everyone I probably glow in the dark from all of the scans.

You have a great sense of humor! I called Mayo for a estimate and about fell over! $2500+ and add on the fee for reading it. GULP.
I do not like the sound of 30% of that. Hopefully they have a good provider reduction.

They are expensive but it also depends on the hospital. Our local hospital is outrageous! My daughter had a kidney stone and she had 2 scans which totaled over $7000.00 not counting reading them. At an out of town hospital I had one on my head and it was $1300.00...I had vertigo. Both of these incidents were in the last 2 months. I have insurance but my daughter doesn't.
Wife of Danny for 28 years...the love of my life and my best friend.. 28 years of marriage and my heart still goes pitter patter when he winks at me.

I'm so very proud of my wonderful family. God has truly truly blessed me.
