I'd say it was one of this year's fawns. Poor little thing.

I had this personally happen- my hubby and I came upon a car stopped in the road- they had almost hit a fawn, who was frozen next to the car. As we watched the fawn started trying to wriggle under the car. Everyone (there was a crowd, now) stood there watching- I went over, extracted the fawn it's attempts to slide under the car, and moved it into the woods. After a few it came to it's sense and took off. I was nervous handling it and very mindful of those hooves, but everyone esle seemed content to watch it try to hide under the car...and i wasn't about to see it get smooshed!
