    Default Shipping cookies overseas question??

    Hi,
I will be baking/cooking this week to make a box of goodies to ship to a friend overseas. You know.... a taste of home for the holidays. Anyway, I've not done this before, and wondered if you had any tips for this?

I'm thinking of making rice crispy bars and fudge, and maybe no-bake cookies (with oatmeal and cocoa). I thought those might stand up to shipping a little more.

I also thought I might package them in small plastic containers, like Glad Ware, to keep them from shuffling around too much.

Any other tips? I checked on the mailing time, and it could be 3 weeks, so I need something that will last.

    Thanks!

UPS is very helpful. I have a kid 7 hrs away in college now and they have been so helpful.

Pack them airtight and they should be fine. Avoid delicate cookies. Use crumpled paper or packing peanuts to fill all empty spaces. You want padding in case the box is dropped or crushed, and you don't want stuff rattling around. Kind of like packing glassware.

Just a thought BUT...........unless the cookie fits EXACTLY in the Glad Ware wouldn't it have the potential of being harder on them when they are jostled around than just being packed in a baggie with lots of packing around them? (or multiple baggies but LOTS of padding)

Definately would use UPS or DHL to send your package. Will get there sooner. I have seen small sheets of bubble wrap at Dollar Tree (dollar store). You could cut the sheets to fit the container. Would help to keep the cookies from shifting around. Between each layer of cookies you could either use bubble wrap or wax paper. If you can place the container in a larger box and fill around with peanuts or regular popcorn to make sure the cookies do not get smashed.

Rum balls would also be a good idea since the longer they sit the better they get!

I always stacked two cookies, bottom to bottom in cupcake papers, then stacked in gladware containers. Shipped to Iraq...no problems.

I'd package them tightly in tins and then put them in bigger box and cushion the tin so it doesn't move around.
Oh, some countries don't allow certain items to be shipped into their country. Good idea to check and see if food items are Ok.

What Darlene said! Avoid using fruit, nuts, or seeds. These things are not allowed to be sent in this way in many countries. The US being one of them hehe. Of course if you can find a list for the country in particular that would be good to check!
