Small Business Saturday!
I found out last night from DH that today is Small Business Saturday.
My DH works in a small business and we often try to support small local business in our community. I don't know if there is any kickbacks for today (I know in my DH's store they have a ton of good sales for Christmas gifts!), but if you have some money, try to go out and support some of the local small business (I heard on the news that 65% of Americans are employed through small business and also it will help the economy and keep money in your area!)!
Do you try to help out your local small business?

Yes I do! I bought my nephews gifts at a craft fair. I am also buying my stepdad a gift card to a local steakhouse (not a chain a local one owned by local people). So between the two there is $55 of my money that a retail chain will not recieve this Christmas
Plus I am buying about $30 worth of stamps (I give my grandma stamps for christmas, saves her $ and clutter) so that is more $ that a retail chain wont see although Im not sure that the American government is any less evil than Walmart! LOL

I registered my AMEX Small Business credit card (I AM a small business) for this event. One of my grocery stores is a small business. If I charge $25 on my AMEX card there today, AMEX will give me a $25 credit on my account.
I also signed up with FedEx recently and won a $25 AMEX gift card to use at a small business. So I will spend $50 at my local grocery store and it will cost me nothing. It is a win/win situation.
I shop at local small businesses whenever possible. The problem with Small Business Saturday and AMEX is that many small business don't take AMEX because their fees are higher than the other credit card companies. BUT that's okay with me because I will pay cash more times than not.Mary

Yes, we do. I hate the mall, almost as much as I hate chain restaurants and Wal-Mart.

Per the Small Business Admininstration--for every 100$ spent at a small business, 68$ stays returns to the community. For every $100 spent at a chain, only 46$ returns to the community.

Thank you for reminding everyone here! While you're shopping locally remember to ASK for Made in the USA items! They may be hard to find but we need those retailers to know we're looking for them

I have been wanting to post this for awhile, but I keep forgetting. A few months ago one of the news channels (60 minutes or 20/20), had an episode about supporting American made products. Here is a copy of the link (I hope I post it right), I was surprised about some of the stuff on the list!

I registered my AMEX card and went to a local grocery store today. I bought 8 ribeyes and 2 packages of chicken breasts for a total of $27.38. I paid with my AMEX card and AMEX will give me a $25 credit on my card. SO I got all that meat for $2.37! The small business/local grocery made a sale and I got a deal.
