black cohosh and sage quick question..
my doc says i am perimenoausal which can take years to get to menopause...i have times where i get extremely dizzy, almost like you feel like when you have a hangover...sorry! I get real hot real quick etc...will the black cohosh and sage help with that and how much do you take and how to use it....I have a hard time believing i am close to menopause because the last couple of years my cycle has come like clock work...almost to the very minute but has been very very heavy extremely heavy. They did ultrasounds and biopsies and say that the heaviness is normal at this age blah blah blah...i can deal with it but the dizziness and the hangover feeling i need to something about... thanks for your help..

I had a lot of really weird symptoms when I was perimenopausal. The worst was MAJOR PMS feeling ALL month. I guess they call it PMDD. Wish I had sought treatment for that.
But, I was determined to go through perimeno. naturally. I did try the Black cohosh (never heard of the sage), Evening Primrose, and a 'natural' Progesterone cream for awhile. Never saw any help at all from any of them. I DID get some help for the night sweats from putting coconut oil on my head and hair at night (put a towel on your pillow!), and on my feet. Coconut oil is supposed to be a cooling oil, and help with the sweats. Plus my hair was really soft when I shampooed the mess out in the AM, and my feet were soft. LOL! Also, try to use only light cotton bedding...acrylics, polyester (same thing) and artificial fabrics make the night sweats worse.
I never tried the hormones the doctor hands out...I did not to have the side effects. I just learned to dress by layering clothes (something to take OFF) and keeping the house and especially the bedroom cooler.
I will tell you that I found actual menopause (when your periods stop) to be MUCH nicer. My symptoms went away gradually, and also the PMDD and I felt like a million bucks!---still do! I rarely get a hot flash anymore, and it's a lot less HOT.

I used a progesterone cream (yam extract) for peri-menopause. That helped a lot. But once the hot flashes came I switched to black cohosh and sage. I take black cohosh for a month, then take a week long break, then start again. That's what they say to do...only they say only take a couple days break. I like to give lots of time to clean out my system before going back to it. I take one pill twice a day, morning and night.
Sage takes a couple weeks to kick in. I found black cohosh on its own didn't do the trick (it worked a bit, but not as well as I hoped), so I added sage. Sage, I take 2 capsules morning and night. You can take that forever, no problems.
I take the Natural Factors Black Cohosh 40 mg. vegetarian capsules, and WomenSense Sage Leaf vegetarian capsules.
I won't go near hormone replacement therapy. Don't like the potential side effects.2012 Challenges

i have been doing some research on the black cohosh and i guess there can be side effects etc not sure...also how do you do the sage...i dont think i saw that.....thanks for your help...I cant handle the symptoms on some days....because it kicks in my anxiety and i am just a huge huge mess...the doc gave me some medication to help with the anxiety but it doesnt work...Another kind she gave me did seem to work with the anxiety but i would have to sign a contract and go into be tested occasionally...I have no problem signing a contract or being tested because there wouldnt be anything else in my system but my days are so busy now that i cant imaginine getting a call at work telling me to go and get my blood tested at that very moment etc...so i do without...

Black Cohosh only has side effects if you take it non-stop. You need to take the break every now and then. Which I do.
Sage is 2 capsules morning and night. Took a couple of weeks before I noticed any difference.
ETA: just did some research on Black Cohosh and can see where someone might have a problem with it. I won't. But depends on your medical situation. For what it's worth, I've also heard oregano is good for menopause. But don't know anything about it.2012 Challenges

My naturopath recommended:
isoflavones - 50-150 mg/day
flaxseeds
Vitamin C with bioflavonoids
gama-oryzanol 100 mg 3x/day (never did ever find this)
Vit E 400 IU/day
evening primrose oil 6-1- caps/day
black cohosh 80-160 mg/day
I take (for the perimenopause):
flaxseed oil (1000 mg per day)
Vit e 400 iu/day
evening primrose oil 3 per day (1500 mg total)
multi-b (schiff's complex 50)
calcium (1200 mg+D)
amberen (one orange and one white per day)
I also take gingo biloba complex (has eleuthero and bilberry in it also). It helps my brain work better and I am less of an idiot (ie, less meno brain).Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

I toohave had mine return to a more regular schedule. That was unexpected since I have not heard of anyoneelse doing that. I take mata capsules and calcium about a week before my periods start and it seems to help with much of the mental and physical drain.
