I had to chuckle. Today DH got a call from the bank. We haven't heard from them in ages via phone. Hmm...wonder what they want? They asked when he'd be home. I told him this evening and weekends. Well, that's easier than explaining his weird and wacky 4 week rotating shift... Bet that's gonna be the high pressure insurance sales team. Up here the banks sell insurance.

As I was on the journey to become debt free I shared with my family my progress. I lived a SUPER thrifty lifestyle....somehow the rumor got around among them that I was living a "secret/double" life as they could not fathom that I could be cheap enough to pay everything off. To this day when they can not reach me by cell phone they give the reason that I must be living my double life and therefore could not be reached

I was in the bank yesterday. The bank staff always act as though I am a pauper and can not spend much time with me until they look online and see that I have a years worth of income saved at their bank....then they begin trying to get me to sign up for all kinds of their products. I just say nicely and politely "no thank-you".

I just hate when people think I'm broke and helpless and can't afford anything. Like it's so pathetic I don't choose to spend every penny I get on inconsequential things. Poor, sad me.
When our eight kids were home, we had one of the largest families in the Minneapolis school system. Certain people in our kids' various schools figured if we had that many kids, we must be dirt poor and suffering. It annoyed and sometimes amused me that they were always offering it 'help' us. Once a school official contacted me and offered to give my daughter a pair of shoes. Why? Because her favorite pair had a hole in the toe. She had eight other pairs in perfectly good condition in her closet, but she liked the holey ones. She did wear others to school at times so her teachers knew she had decent shoes, so I'm not sure why they were so offended about it. We didn't care if she wore a holey shoe to school. It didn't hurt her or anyone else. But it sure upset some of the adults at school! I told them she didn't need new shoes, thanked them for the offer, but turned it down. They were completely baffled that anyone would actually not accept a handout. Years later I still don't understand their attitude and their insistence that my kid couldn't do something that wasn't illegal and didn't harm anyone including herself.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I HATE BANKS..................AND BANKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG..........you have just HIT MY NERVE. I don't think I had better even go there with this..........
I CONSTANTLY got the "how do you manage that".......when I was
traveling and would often take a month off.........and I do
mean constantly by co-workers..........got to me big time after
a while.......and my answer got pretty 'snippy' with one person about the THIRD TIME he had asked it.
As for banks.........I could write a book on what I have been going
through doing my dad's estate. WELLS FARGO was the worst....and literally told me I couldn't close an acct. because a totally diff. acct. had a direct dep. going into it........and I had to close them both at the same time. I told them I would be in a couple days before Xmas to REMOVE IT ALL......and things changed real fast.
When banks ask me about my financial and why it isn't all with them..........I tell them when they get COMPETITIVE interest rates I might consider it.
Did I mention I hate banks and banking????
If the bank isn't competitive with the items I want........I will change banks like most people change underwear!!!!!!!!!!

I got a curious call yesterday. A gentleman from our regular bank (the one we do the most business with) phoned to do a consultation over the phone. He noticed I didn't have a retirement account with them (I have it somewhere else thank-you!). He wanted to know if I would like a visit from a "mobile banker" to discuss my retirement situation. I laughed and said "no thank-you!" Mobile banker...what will they think of next?!

Peanut; thanks for the laugh; I, too, have chosen to stay home And we do not live paycheck to paycheck because we don't buy everything that comes along. Spirit deer thanks for your post about getting rid of the clutter; I NEED to stay away from All used clothing stores. The temptation is too great for me. I need to live by the rule of bringing things in and needing to get rid of the same amount of things. I think I need to print your 2nd post and hang it on my refrigerator.

LOL...Banks are...something...well our LOANS manager had the nerve to ask when are we 'moving up' with our home...I laughed pretty hard(while in her presence) and said "This mortgage will be gone in 2.5 yrs, at that time we'll bank $3500 a month into a retirement account, and 13 yrs after that we will be retired, our home is all the home we need"....and she laughs and says "oh yeah, you guys hate debt"...I said it was against my religion and told her to have a great day LOL.

I bank at a local bank everyone knows me by name and treats me with respect. They don't try to sell me anything because they already know I'm cheap. When they started charging monthly fees my favorite Teller told me how to get around the charge.

Debt free for the first time in my life !!!!!!!
